Obama leads in ongoing tally of Texas county caucus results
Latest count gives Obama 60 percent of delegates

The presidential contest in Texas appeared to tighten with weekend Democratic caucuses as Sen. Barack Obama led Sen. Hillary Clinton in incomplete county and Senate district convention results.

Obama won 2,471 delegates to the state convention, or 58 percent, in the Saturday caucuses, compared with 1,783 delegates, or 42 percent, for Clinton, according to an ongoing count Sunday by The Associated Press. More than 3,000 were still to be counted.

Obama's campaign predicted he would win the overall delegate race in Texas because of caucus support, even though Clinton won the popular vote in the March 4 primary.

Democracy gets messy in Texas
By The Editorial Board | Monday, March 31, 2008, 04:54 PM

Rough and tumble democracy broke out all over Texas last weekend as thousands of primary voters attended their state senate district conventions.

As confusing as the process is for the Democrats, and with record numbers of people caucusing, it went as well as could be expected. There were long waits, ample amounts of confusion and intra-party squabbles, but it worked out for the most part.

Not everyone was pleased to see such a turnout at the district conventions, which had been relatively quiet affairs for decades. Some longtime Democratic Party stalwarts were miffed as new, enthusiastic delegates swamped the conventions. More than 100,000 Democrats attended about 280 conventions Saturday and Sunday.

There is something of a generational divide among Democrats as well. Young, energetic supporters of Sen. Barack Obama swelled the delegate ranks and provided a much different atmosphere, even in heavily Republican Williamson County.

Fire it up - young, energetic supporters of Sen. Barack Obama! This old party member welcomes you into the fold. In fact I insist you drive. :applause:

Obama leads in Texas delegates

Sen. Barack Obama has won the overall delegate race in Texas, thanks to a strong showing in Democratic county conventions last weekend.

Obama picked up seven of nine outstanding delegates, giving him a total of 99 Texas delegates to the party's national convention this summer. Sen. Hillary Clinton won the other two, giving her a total of 94 Texas delegates, according to an analysis of returns by The Associated Press.

We got it done! Obamanos!

Congratulations to Senator Obama - he won Texas!

9. Speaking of counting - Did you see TVOR's post today?
Our own resident math nerd thevoiceofreason (TVOR) has a great thread about the Mississippi results, and he's largely responsible for catching that last week. Here's the thread:
Mississippi certified returns have been updated - Obama +1, Clinton -1

Go give our good man a kick and recommendation on his thread.

:toast: to TVOR. I do so like that acronym, it sounds Vulcan to me.

Clinton's Texas campaign says Obama may be ahead in delegates
Still, Clinton coordinator says, New York senator could come out ahead in Texas at state convention.

Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton's Texas campaign conceded Tuesday that if nearly complete results from weekend Democratic conventions hold, Barack Obama stands to take more delegates from Texas to the party's national convention than Clinton.

Clinton's camp insisted, though, that Clinton still could close the Texas gap if yet-to-be-counted delegates from outlying regional conventions and about 350 party officials who are automatic delegates to the state convention in Austin tilt her way.

Her campaign also said it was encouraged by Clinton's shutting out Obama for state delegates last weekend in conventions in more than 25 counties where Obama's candidacy had earlier generated interest.

Shut out by what means? dg doesn't want to relive what happened in Webb.

12. We have to find you a job away from Webb
We just have to. When you come to the convention, we're just going to shop your resume. So get that polished up.

13. No fake
And Judy's got an opponent who's hitting her hard. Of course it's that nutjob Louis Bruni, so I won't vote for him either. I hope the Libs are running someone again because I don't want to vote for her but I also don't want to leave a blank spot on my ballot. :(

I've done that many a time. Our worst is still better than their best. At least that's what I have to tell myself, sometimes.
