RIP Ron Stone

Good night, neighbors.

Longtime television newsman Ron Stone, whose sense of community, down-to-earth manner and devotion to language and history helped shape the face of Houston broadcasting, died Tuesday at his home.

Stone, who was diagnosed last year with prostate cancer, was 72.

His signoff, as delivered across four decades on KHOU (Channel 11) and KPRC (Channel 2), was "Good night, neighbors," and friends and co-workers said the signature spoke volumes about the man.

Lots of memories of him and Doug Johnson, whilst growing up in the 70s...

I loved Ron!! Born and raised in Houston and him, Neil Frank, Bill Balleza, Marvin Zindler and that blonde lady on KPRC....what was her name....were such a big part of my childhood. Sounds cheesey, I know. But both my parents watched the news every night and Bill and the blonde lady (still can't remember) actually came to my elementary schools for presentations.
Now I'm totally bummed!
I still miss the Eyes of Texas-great show.
