Considering that stealing signs is against the law, you will hardly get Johnny Law to come down and write up a report, much less, arrest someone. So I give to you ideas on how to protect your signs:
- Staple fiberglass insulation on the sign stake. Most thieves will not carry gloves or such when they are sneaking around at night. Once they grab the stake, they will have itchy hands for a while. Its not life-threatening but really annoying.
- Turn a negative into a positive. THE NEGATIVE: We all have neighbors that own dogs that poop in yards. Some irresponsible dog owners will not pick up that poop. THE POSITIVE: Why not collect these free doggie land mines with a handy shovel and place them everywhere around your signs. When that sneaky repub comes around, he will not see the surprises you left for him. In a few weeks after the election, you can pick up and throw away the doggie land mines after they harden up.
- Grab some fishing line and tie up all your signs together along with the mailbox, trees, etc. I doubt our opportunistic vandals will have a pair of scissors to cut the line.
- The Tennessee Surprise: Pot farmers tie rattlesnakes to stakes around there pot farms in order to keep looters and law enforcement away from their crops. This is an extreme measure to protect your signs and I would not recommend it, but what's wrong with placing fake plastic snakes around your signs to scare the bejezzus out of your midnight prowlers.
- The Bunny Complex: When they take one sign, replace with two more. When they take these two signs, replace with four more. When they steal these four, replace with eight signs. Time to paint the garage door and mailbox.
- Final Straw?: Mount your signs on your roof. If someone gets on your roof to steal your signs, you should be able to shoot and ask questions later. They are trying to break in, right????
If you have any more comments or ideas, please share. I am just as tired as anyone of the bullying tactics of republicans. I always keep extra Kerry signs because there is no foolproof way to protect your signs.
