1. Don't forget that when you vote by straight party ticket
You still have to page through to the last page to vote on the Capital Metro commuter rail referendum. In other words don't hit the cast ballot button immediately after selecting straight ticket. You may want to review your selections first and vote in the commuter rail issue. There are several races with no Dems running. Your only options are repukes and libertarians.

Statesman's short coverage:
A few snags as voting starts
http://www.statesman.com/metrostate/content/auto/epaper/editions/tuesday/metro_state_1447cb376265e100007e.html

Some Travis County voters reported difficulty casting a ballot on the Capital Metro commuter rail referendum during the first day of early voting Monday, but county officials attributed the troubles to voter confusion and not a technical problem.

The rail referendum is the last item on the ballot, so a voter must move through several screens of candidates before getting to the issue. If a straight party ballot is cast, the voter must still go through the candidate screens to vote on the rail referendum. Some voters said they unwittingly cast their ballot without voting on the referendum because they voted a straight party ballot.

Election officials said Monday's turnout was heavy, about double the number of voters who turned out on the first day of early voting in 2000. Voting at two locations hit an early snag when a piece of electronic voting equipment, stowed in a poll worker's car, was stolen along with the car. County officials scrambled to get new equipment to the Northeast Health Center in time to open, but voting at the Dell Jewish Community Center campus was delayed for about 20 minutes as poll workers waited for equipment. The stolen equipment was a judge's console that collects votes from all the machines in a precinct.

Results of the election will not be affected, officials said.
-----------------
They always say this kind of thing don't they? The election will not be affected, nothing to see here move away. I think the story is that you have a election judge's console loaded with the software that tabulates all the precinct boxes, stolen. But they don't think that's a big issue. Just a coincidence of course. The thieves really just wanted the car.

2. Also if you live in District 10
After voting a straight Democratic Ticket, you still need to go to the congressional race, select "write-in" and then use the magic dial-a-prayer wheel to write in Lorenzo Sadun for Congress.

3. Early vote totals for Day1 is 16,000

3 percent of Travis County voters cast ballot
It looks like a lot of people are getting a jump on election day and casting their votes early.

Monday was the first day of early voting for next month's elections.

Nearly 3 percent of registered voters in Travis County, roughly 16,000 people, voted early. That is more than double the number during the last presidential election.

Vote Early Travis! Vote for Change.

4. Another report on Travis County turnout
Very Big Early Voting Numbers

"We thought that first day was sort of an early voting first day phenomenon. What we're finding on the second day of early voting is that it's still holding steady," Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said.

Travis County's clerk says this could indicate a high turnout trend through early voting and spilling into election day.

(snip)

In Travis County something else might be lending to unusually high early voting.

"Remember, we have 75,000 brand new voters registered in Travis County," DeBeauvoir said.

5. I'm glad we got it out of the way early
I hate standing in line.

We should probably tell our Republican friends (if you have any)"Bush has it in the bag... lines are long... why waste your time?"
