Saturday's SBOE Forum

Did anyone attend? I went to it, but Cynthia Dunbar did not show up. Lorenzo Sadun was there and gave an interesting presentation. I read a story on the Chronicle that says he is considering running for the District 10 spot, as well as Susan Shelton.

I was unfortunately unable to stay and get to know Mr. Sadun, and I don't know much at all about Mrs. Shelton; however, I do plan to attend the meeting the 14th of this month about changing District 10. I hope this election does not come down to evolution vs. creationism, or the election will play into Dunbar's hands. Looking at the fundraising numbers, etc. it will be important to create a broad coalition to combat the deep pockets that will come into play.

1. I didn't go either but I know them both
Susan Shelton is the SDEC Committeewoman for SD District 14 for Austin. That means she was elected to serve on the State Democratic Executive Committee. She won an open seat when Fran Vincent gave up her seat. Fran had committed to only running for two terms. You might recognize Fran Vincent as one of the state steering committee members of Democracy for Texas.

Susan is very engaged in the process. She has attended at least a couple of those SBOE committee meetings that I know of. She posts as as "sccs" at Burnt Orange and Texas Kaos. Her most recent post on BOR says she's not in the game yet.

Lorenzo of course is also very engaged. He ran as a write in candidate for CD10 the first election after redistricting since the Democratic party failed to recruit a candidate.

Here is the BOR diary about the same Austin Chronicle story you posted
Shelton & Sadun Consider Bids for State Board of Education

2. Cool. Thanks.
I've been looking at the election numbers (by county) in the '06 primary and general elections. Dale wasn't very competitive in the primary, even though he was endorsed by the outgoing SBOE member (the primary numbers are all I have looked at so far). I still need to compare the '06 race to what we've seen in '08, particularly at a precinct by precinct level in the large counties.
