Perry injured at end of newsy day (slow news day)
First Reading blog AAS 6/10/09
Tuesday highlights and the day ahead

Gov. Rick Perry broke his right collarbone in a cycling accident near his home west of Austin on Tuesday evening. He was scheduled to be released from the hospital last night. I posted the news on Postcards as soon as I heard about it and blog commenters showed their usual tact and compassion. (Example: “Finally … justice,” one wrote).

(snip)
Paul Burka reports that lawmakers may have an incentive for a short July session: Their desire to get to the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting that begins July 20. He writes, "The NCSL trip is a good incentive for lawmakers to get their business done in a hurry. The call would be limited to two items: the Sunset safety net bill and authorization for the $2 billion in highway bonds. Voter ID? Probably not. He has to prepare for a general election campaign as well as a primary, and putting the spotlight on a partisan political issue would not help him."

If Perry calls the special session and adds photo ID to it - he's a bigger idiot than anyone thought he was.

It's really hard to show compassion to someone who doesn't have a heart.

The accident forced the postponement of Perry's planned trips to Galveston, Corpus Christi and South Padre Island to sign bills passed by the Legislature. Perry planned to sign bills for windstorm insurance reform and for supplemental funding for the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Now that's funny - he misses out on his photo opportunity.
