After being a guest speaker at a fundraiser for Tom DeLay and giving DeLay credit for solving a toxic rail disaster which he did not deserve, DeLay screws Mayor White and Houston by not securing federal funding for light rail.
"Houston has long struggled to obtain federal funding for its light rail system, the first 7 1/2 -mile piece of which opened last year. Metro paid for that initial $324 million segment on its own after U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land, wrote a provision into law barring any federal grants because the transit authority had not obtained voter approval to build rail."
However, I'm not sure if the fundraiser referred to in jc2's post is one of the ones referred to in the Burnt Orange Report. I would imagine it is one of them. The Chronicle link in jc2's post is dead now.
It sounds like it was Bill sucking up to Tom to get money for light rail, which Houston desperately needs.
Just that won't take White off my list.
But then we did get some funding (but I'm not sure what it all means). But evidently, it meant that White was effective against the bugman Hammer dude pondscum somehow.

Realistically, what are the chances for getting a senator elected who is an unadulterated progressive? In Texas? Now? Not that we shouldn't try IF we have a viable candidate. (DVO DVO DVO).
