1. What's a good date for you hobbit?
We usually meet on Sunday mornings. Probably too short a notice for this weekend. How about Sunday the 30th?

That date works for me and the following Sunday the 6th as well.

What say you Mr Hobbit?

5. Well let's go for the earlier date - Aug 30th then
Now for a time and place. Being the slackers that we are - we usually did a 10 a.m. And seeing that all the Austin DU yankees have fled the state (that means you GOPisEvil and VelmaD) I say we stay close to our southern Austin DU roots.

Suggestions:
La Feria (safe bet - won't be crazy busy - food is Ok)

Marias Taco Xpress (busier than all heck any morning - tables will be hard to get on a weekend)

Torchy's Tacos (one of my new favorites - also busy) 2 south
http://torchystacos.com/index2.htm

Tacodeli (also a new favorite - tables? what's a table)
http://www.tacodeli.com/

Other suggestions: (these guys are a funny read)

11. Ok then that's the 4th vote
We know the date and time and now we just have to decide location.

Date: Sunday August 30th
Time: 10:00 a.m.

Location, location. Should we go for same old, same old or be adventurous?

Though as we know, I like to lean towards adventure...

9. But no tables
Or hardly any. What we need is an advance team there if you want one of those picnic tables. We just have to be prepared to do the tailgating thing there.

8. I've been doing the free Barton Springs dip before 9 on Sundays
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 01:22 PM by Melissa G
and brunch with friends after, but I can cut it short and come meet you folks where ever we decide. I was at Maria's two weeks ago and it was not busy. Been to Kerby Lane last week it was busy with a half hour wait.

Barton Springs has been my church visit since the heat wave.O8)

10. Marias not busy on a Sunday?
Which planet were you visiting that the alternate Marias was not busy? They always have music on Sunday and the crowd is huge. Maybe you were there first thing when it opened.

I'm talking 10 a.m. baby.

Plenty of tables, practically empty outside, two weeks ago. cross my heart.

14. Must agree with Melissa
There are times that the music does not get started (in an abbreviated manner) until 11:30 on Sundays. Hippie Church is not quite like it was at her old digs.

But even so, finding a place to sit is not hard even on the most crowded of lunch crowds if you are willing to be indoors.

As for my vote, things are a bit weird at the moment scheduling wise. So, there is a good chance if I do make it, it will be a very brief howdy-ho. However, if I may, the prime thing on Sunday's at most places is both the tables and parking. A lot of places on S. 1st and SoCo can be interesting for parking. Maria's has tables, but parking usually fills up first. TacoDeli has only a few tables, but parking is easier (street) course I suppose I could always walk across the creek as it would be faster.

Other thoughts just to throw them out there:

Flip Happy Crepes
Crepes Mille
Kerby Lane
Bouldin Creek
South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery

Anyone around the Austin area that can join us is welcome.

We still haven't picked a restaurant but it will be in S. Austin.

Sunday August the 30th at 10 a.m.

17. No one is making a decision
Everyone seems to be waiting for someone to decide. If you're going to leave it up to me - I say Torchy's South. They don't have much for tables inside but we may score a table outside in their patio area. Parking is very minimal but you can park on the street or in the closed warehouse just south of the building.

This is the kind of place you order your tacos and pay at the front, and they call your number when they're ready. No table wait staff.

This is not the trailer park Torchy's. They have zero parking and even fewer tables.

Doing a group hike on Barton Creek greenbelt. Good thing you didn't choose TacoDeli. It will be a fairly large group hitting it Sunday morning.
