Pete Sessions (TX-32) isn't feeling the love - he has a GOP primary challenger
Oh, Lordy, here's David Smith...

Today I am proud to announce my candidacy for the 32nd Congressional District from the Great State of Texas and I want you to be the first to know. My decision to run has not been made lightly, and I can no longer continue to witness the reckless behavior of our government. I respect your hard work as the backbone of the local Republican Party and look forward to meeting you, working with you and hearing your views on the pressing issues facing our nation and Texas' 32nd District...

I am a conservative Republican that endorses the State Platform, and as a corporate accounting professional, I am also a strong fiscal conservative. And sadly I recognize that record budget deficits under Republican leadership led to the exponentially greater debt spending that we see today. I know that our government is broke, in more ways than one, and pledge to do the job our current leadership is failing to perform.

Any chance that Sarah Palin will support him against Taliban Pete?

1. This is good news.
David Smith's articles actually ask some pretty good questions about Pete Sessions' ethics (namely, the hot air balloon earmark, benefitting his former aide's lobbying firm).

If Smith can really make some noise, Pete Sessions will have to spend money and time defending himself in a primary, which he's never done before.

4. Article in Congresional Quarterly
Texas Rep. Sessions Draws Primary Challenger

...David Smith, a corporate financial analyst, said that he is readying a campaign that will focus on accountability, fiscal responsibility and the economy. He plans an official campaign kickoff event on Monday.

Smith, who recently moved to Dallas from Denton County north of the city, opposed Sessions' votes in 2008 for a $700 billion program to stabilize the financial markets. He said the party hasn't adhered to fiscally conservative principles outlined in GOP platforms.

"The deficits that we saw under the Bush administration and the bailout under the Bush administration have led directly to the debt spending we see today, and that's what a lot of what both Republicans and, even more so, conservative independents have a problem with," Smith told CQ Politics Wednesday...

...Smith also accused Sessions of "hypocrisy" for touting a close association with the Boy Scouts of America organization when he held a 2007 fundraiser for this leadership PAC at a Las Vegas burlesque nightclub.

Sessions' campaign hasn't yet responded to requests for comment.
