UT students to line up for Obama tickets

President Barack Obama’s speech at the University of Texas campus on Monday has been described by the the White House and UT as an invitation-only event.

That’s not precisely correct, as the university’s website posting makes clear. In fact, a limited number of tickets will be available to students starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Texas Union.

"A valid UT student ID card will be required," the posting says. Tickets are free and will be parceled out on a first-come, first-served basis, at the rate of one ticket per student.

They're camping out in line right now - in this 100+ degree heat. Bless those kids!

3. Why isn't White willing to appear with Obama?
I'm really not sure what to think about this. What is his reasoning. It seems kinda chicken shit to me. I voted for Obama and plan to vote for White but I just don't understand this.

4. Because this is Texas
And if he wants to win moderates and Republican votes, which he needs to win, he has to distance himself from Obama. Doesn't matter how he feels about him personally. I'm sure he likes him just fine.

Perry would do the same if lets say McCain were in office and the economy was still weak. It won't win you any votes for your race, so why do it.

White has to look like his own man - running for Governor of Texas.

6. Still seems pretty chickenshit to me
Governor For Life Perry isn't afraid in the least to rub shoulders with the craziest of the republican crackpotosphere (or, apparently, Barack Obama) while Bill White is scared to be seen with the President of the country from which Perry muses about seceding? Does anyone seriously believe the election is going to turn on a handshake? Come on, Bill, show us a little courage.

7. I want my Governor...
to be proud and unafraid to stand with our President. White shouldn't be assuming every Democrat is going to vote for him and he should be trying to get those votes. The Republican vote isn't even worth courting at this point.

5. Eager students get their tickets for President Obama’s speech

Eager students get their tickets for President Obama’s speech

Some of an estimated 1,000 students who stood in a sprawling line from the Texas Union to San Jacinto Street this morning were prepared to wait outside overnight to get coveted tickets to see President Barack Obama speak on Monday.

The good news was that they didn’t have to.

Last night, when students were allowed to line up starting at 10 p.m., they were given green vouchers to hold their places in line. So, it turned out Erica Puckett, Leah Brown and Crystal Henry didn’t have to bring their laptops, groceries and sleeping bags to campus after all — but they had them ready.

The three new friends were the first in line after Leah Brown, 21, read in an email that parking would be interrupted on campus because of President Obama’s visit.

UT played it smart and didn't let these kids pass our from heat exhaustion yesterday. Good for them!

:applause:
