Democrats go after Gov. Perry in Texas

In a surprise move, the Democratic Governors Association has decided to up the ante in Texas, with plans to launch an attack ad against Gov. Rick Perry (R ) that assails him as a career politician who has lost touch with the people of the Lone Star State.

The audacious action comes in a state that has been a Republican stronghold for more than a decade. But Democrats have concluded that, even in a year that tilts strongly toward Republicans, Perry is more vulnerable than he has appeared in his race against Democrat Bill White, the former mayor of Houston.

The DGA has already contributed $2 million to White's campaign. The new ad buy, which is scheduled to begin running in the Dallas area Tuesday, represents an independent expenditure on behalf of White. A Democratic strategist said the DGA would spend about $650,000 to $700,000 a week on its ad campaign.

We need all the help we can get!

2. Are the Dems in Houston going after the lack of voting machines?
I think we can get more votes for White than Perry. The question is will those votes be ones that are counted?

8. The latest I heard was that they would have equal number of machines
According to a Texas Tribune interview linked below, Harris will have the exact number of machines in each precinct they had in the last Gubernatorial election.
Can Harris County Elections Rise From the Ashes?

Plus they have 800,000 emergency paper ballots printed. I would suspect that this election in Harris is going to be very "closely watched". They had to submit an emergency election plan to DOJ since Texas is a VRA Section 5 state. It would not surprise me one bit to see DOJ actually monitoring the Harris vote count and election.

9. Excellent! Thanks for posting. That is good news!
I still think we need to keep a watch like hawk for dirty tricks in Harris county around the election, but I am cautiously optimistic.

10. Just saw the ad--it's powerful
Saw it on WFAA channel 8 around 12:25 during the noon news.

This is one of the most powerful political ads I've ever seen. Watch it on TV or on YouTube:

13. One problem with ad.
No mention of Bill White, who still needs name recognition.

16. It's a negative ad
Those are best kept separate from the candidate. Bill White is not attacking Perry in the ad - Perry's horrible failure as a Governor speaks for itself. Best not to confuse two messages.

You want a negative ad on Perry and a separate Bill White ad produced by his campaign that's positive.

That's just my two cents.
