Perry,White trade blows on Houston officer's killing
http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2010/10/perrywhite_trad.html

Democrat Bill White struck back at a new campaign ad by GOP Gov. Rick Perry that features the widow of a Houston police officer killed by an immigrant who was in the country illegally. (video posted on link)

White says Perry is "exploiting shamelessly the grief of a widow" to hide his "sorry record" on securing the border.

White's Press release:

AUSTIN - Rick Perry, ignorant of public safety and out of touch with law enforcement, cleaned the records of convicted sex offenders who were deported from the United States and allowed deported criminals to keep valid drivers licenses.

"For 10 years, Perry has failed law enforcement, failed to secure the border. Criminals don't parachute into cities, they come over that border Perry only visits during election season. He's too busy looking out for himself to pay attention to what matters for public safety," said White.

"Rick Perry cleaned the records of thousands of convicted sex offenders who were deported and kept this policy until we confronted him about it," said White. "Perry even let deported criminals keep valid drivers licenses."

"Because of Perry's failure to secure the border, local police spend their time arresting illegal immigrants who commit crimes every day, as they did when I was Houston's mayor," said White.

The Crime Victims Office of Houston Mayor Bill White confronted Rick Perry's Department of Public Safety about why it had a policy of dropping sex offenders from the sex offender registry once deported.

Perry must be desperate. Has anyone else seen this ad?

1. Yes, I saw this disgusting ad. I'm so sorry for this woman's loss...
but what the h*ll is she thinking??? Just because her husband was killed by a Katrina victim doesn't prove that Houston is a so-called sanctuary city. In fact, this propaganda has been somewhat put to rest by Politifact.com/texas. Many cities, including Dallas, gave shelter to Katrina victims, but the Republican Tea Bagger and the conservative, uncharitable/inconsiderate, stingy, hillbilly voters of this state feel it's a crime to help someone in need. Also, these same hillbilly voters conveniently forget that Bush possibly could have alleviated much of this problem if he had done the right thing to help the Katrina victims out. Bush basically allowed these people to perish and fend for themselves at a time of disaster, so survival instincts set in, and these people had to do what anyone faced in a similar situation would do- they ran away from it. What else were they supposed to do?

Sorry for the rant, but this is a bone of contention for me.

4. I feel very similar about Katrina victims,
but the guy who killed her husband was an "illegal immigrant" who was previously deported and returned to Houston before killing the officer. I don't think there is a Katrina connection, but there might be.

Speaking of Katrina, I have never been more proud of White, Houston and many other cities during that time.

2. Blame Perry Not White
Perry is the person who should be getting the blame for the officer's shooting. Even in the ad the widow points out that the man that did the shooting had been deported. That means he reentered the United States. If the man was deported and then reentered the country that was due to Perry's lack of ability to secure the border. If Perry has yet to secure the border why should he be given more time to do the job?

3. Bill White Releases Hard Hitting Response Ad

Bill White Releases Hard Hitting Response Ad

Bill White has released a new ad responding to Rick Perry's latest false, negative attack ad.

Burnt Orange Report 10/25/10
Rick Perry Will Threaten Reporters Who Point Out He Is Lying About Sanctuary Cities

Rick Perry is so desperate to win re-election that he will threaten reporters who point out the truth.

For almost a year, Rick Perry and Texas Republicans have insisted that Houston is a sanctuary city. That is clearly and blatantly FALSE:

* The Austin American-Statesman's PolitiFact Texas rated that claim FALSE.

Ricky Perry will do anything to win - he's done everything already - lie, cheat, steal, and sell Texas assets from Texans - so of course he's going to take advantage of a woman's grief over her husband's loss. He's a low life. :grr:

5. Good response ad!
Just when you think Perry cannot go any lower, he takes another step down. I'm glad that White is hitting back hard.
