TX Unemployment benefit question -- layed off 2 weeks ago, applied online,
requested first payment Sunday and they still don't have me approved for benefits. I'm assuming they're busy and other websites say it can be 3 weeks or so...does anybody here have first-hand recent knowledge about the timeframe?

THANKS!!!

1. Mine was contested by my employer (big shock there!)
It took about two weeks after I first filed to be approved--that included the hearing.
When you get your debit card--you should receive your payment just a few days after that.
Good luck!

2. Has your employer responded yet?
Employers have 2 weeks to respond to UI claims and TWC will not process until a response is submitted or the deadline passes. Payment typically takes about a week after a "no-contest" response is received or the deadline passes.

I would recommend calling your TWC rep just in case the employer response is causing the hold-up. I handle UI for the company I work with and due to delays caused by the building's ridiculous mail system, TWC has had to call me for responses on several occasions.

Best of luck - I hope everything works out for you :)

3. My initial request sat for six weeks
I was very patient but I finally called and apparently my former employer didn't return whatever they were supposed to return. The person I spoke with put me on hold to talk to her supervisor and then OK'd the payment. *lesson, don't wait six weeks)

I have direct deposit. I request payment online on Sunday and it's in our bank account on Tuesday.

I keep a record of my job searches but so far no one has asked for it.

Good luck. I'm on my 5th month of unemployment. Not sure what happens after it's exhausted.

4. Summer of 2009 I was on unemployment for a few weeks
I was lucky when I got laid off, I received a job offer the next day. Anywho, there were three weeks before the new job started. I did the unemployment deal online, and I think I got my unemployment pay probably two weeks into starting my new job. The good thing, is that though it may take a few extra weeks, you'll get a lump sum for all the back payments.

I do know that my previous job did not deny or challenge the unemployment claim.
