Austin Against War Rally Friday 11/12 4:30 -Capitol

RALLY TO OPPOSE THE ATTACK ON FALLUJA

In solidarity with worldwide protests this week, Austinites will call for the immediate cessation of all military activity which has resulted in a staggering number of deaths for U.S. and Iraqi citizens. Also in attendance will be Carlos Mauricio, a San Francisco-based human rights activist and El Salvadorian torture survivor, who is driving to the "School of the Assassins", or the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, formerly known as the School of the Americas, to call for its closure. Fri., Nov. 12, 4:30-6:30pm. South Steps of the Capitol.

1. Don't think I can make it to Austin in 90 minutes...

I'm there in spirit if not in body. Peace to the local Quakers, Mennonites, and fellow anti-war DUers down at the capitol.

I'm taking off soon. My understanding is that these vigils will be held weekly and I'm sure turn into large anti-war rallies.

3. Nice turnout tonight

We had about 100 people turn out. The main point of tonight's vigil was to get more people interested in joining the protest of the School of The Americas/School of the Assassins. They can re-name it but they can't hide that it still engages in training terrorists.

Carlos Mauricio, a torture survivor at the hands of people trained at SOA gave a short speech. The tour bus is headed to San Antonio tomorrow. The vigil in San Antonio on Sat 11/13 will take place at the North Gate of Lackland AFB from 3-5 p.m..

Some of us Dallasites might have come to this if we had known about it. Please post your events on North Texas Indy Media www.ntimc.org. It's really easy and it will get your events out to Dallas area activists in a quick and easy way. Another new website to keep networked is www.keepdallasplastic.com.
