Time to Vote Texas - Where I'm From Short Film Contest
Just for fun. These videos are really neat. Films can be voted on through Aug. 15.

Where I'm From Short Film Contest

About the Contest

In Texas, cities and towns are more than just places on a map. They’re part of who we are and how we define ourselves. Over the years, Texas Monthly has written about every corner of the state, and in two special Where I’m From issues, in 2005 and 2010, the magazine’s writers and contributors shared their personal stories of growing up here.

This year, for the second time, we’re hosting the Texas Monthly Where I’m From Short Film Contest (in partnership with the Austin Film Festival) so that readers can tell us about the place they’re from, in ten minutes or less. We received many movies from all over Texas, some from filmmakers with moviemaking experience, some from rookies with a story to tell. We narrowed it down to these 15 semi-finalists.

Finalists will be screened at an Official Shorts Program during the 18th Austin Film Festival, October 20-27, 2011 and will be showcased at texasmonthly.com

3. I grew up in McAllen
Never heard the Valley referred to as "the 956" (which, btw, includes Laredo, which is NOT the same thing as the Valley)

Bulldogs all the way! :D

4. Area code
I think this is recent. The filmmaker is very young. Probably doesn't remember it being anything else but area code 956.

I was born in Weslaco but grew up in West Texas, then my family moved back to the RGV and I went to school in Mission. Go Eagles!!! :)

5. I know 956 is the area code.
It's the area code of Laredo too.

Boo Mission! What year did you graduate? I dated a guy on the football team there. :D

6. Now dg lets not dig up old rivalries
We're about that aren't we?

As Jon Stewart likes to say "I'm old". In fact I am older than Jon Stewart. :)
