Dean has the right idea for taking back Texas
I saw Dean speak at the Johnson-Rayburn Dinner in Houston this summer and left totally pumped about how we can deliver the Democratic message to voters who haven't been with us up to now. I think in large part the key is just getting out, helping our neighbors run, running ourselves, and pushing pushing pushing the message that Republicans are NOT looking out for the common good. I think that because Dean said it and made me believe it.

Here's a picture of Dean mugging with my daughter at that fundraiser.

Now I give Dean this praise in a particular context. As a candidate, Dr Dean is not my cup of tea. There were damn few candidates running this year who'd lose my vote in a head to head match up with Howard Dean. Bush would have slaughtered him.

But that said, Dean was right on the money in his speech. The key to winning is taking the high ground, believing in our convictions, spreading the word, being true believers in our truth--or, being Democrats, our truths--and pushing that message everywhere we can every place we can reach, with the full hearted belief that we are in the right.

Dean said this formula could make Texas blue again--if not in 5-10 years, then in 15-20. I believe him. That's not pie in the sky; that's true vision. I think we can do it. I plan to try.

1. Hopefully it won't take 20 years for people to realize the mess we're in
we could all be dead by then. Or too poor and too weakened to spend time in politics.

2. That's why I support him for DNC Chairman
He has the vision, the message, and the guts to do the job. And I don't care if he doesn't want the job...draft him! We need new blood and somebody who'll stand for what's right.

3. Right now hispanics are 34% of the population in Texas.

When that number nears 50% I think that state will be viable for the Democrats.

6. You know. I'm really on the same page as far as Dean goes.
I'm not sure if it matters but I supported another candidate for the nomination. Different jobs require different skills and I've always thought Dean would be best for party chair.

McCauliffe is known for his ability to raise funds and has retained his job for that very reason and little else. Dean has also proven his abilities to motivate donors but we need more . . .

Dean's resume shows he can mobilize the base, confront the incumbent aggressively and communicate a cohesive set of ideas to the media. Who else can say that?

This guy is almost tailor made to lead a comeback. He is a counter puncher. The last thing we need is another pragmatist to limit our losses. There is nothing left to lose.

8. I couldn't have put it better
Dean has the tools the Dems need. Number one is character, and number two...big brass cojones.

I am so sick of our party moving to the right. Every time it does, the RW shifts again and becomes more radical. We cannot be Republican-Lite. Our leaders must take them to task for their insane and unfair policies.

Dean has no qualms about calling people out on their hypocrisy. Remember what he said about Falwell? He was dead on, but hardly anybody heard it because he doesn't have an official position in the party. I guarantee if he had been party chairman and said it, the RW Noise Machine would have gone nuts and it would have had vast airplay.

And, just as you say, there is nothing left to lose; but there is everything to gain.

7. Heard Dean speak at Morrison fundraiser. Was terrific!
He made all of the same points you mentioned. He was particularly impressed with the diversity in Texas and how if Dems would get involved with African American, hispanics and others earlier in our campaign seasons, rather than at the very last minute in get out the vote efforts, we would go a long way toward turning Texas blue sooner rather than later.
