Tx. Dem. Candidates See Good News This Week (Delay is vulnerable.)
Two Democratic congressional candidates- a 26 year incumbent in West Texas and a first time candidate down in Houston- have both received great news this week. First, Charlie Stenholm, the Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee and a mainstay of West Texas politics was targeted by Tom DeLay for elimination this year. DeLay worked to make Stenholm one of the weakest Democratic incumbents in the state but it appears that he has failed. A new poll done by Stenholm
shows him leading Neuberger 48-44 with 8 percent undecided. Even if Charlie loses the undecideds by 60-40, he will end up winning reelection and thwarting Tom DeLay's efforts to deprive West Texas of effective congressional representation. The other good news candidate is the man who is literally taking on Tom DeLay- Democratic challenger in DeLay's Congressional District 22 Richard Morrison. Morrison is a Houston-area attorney who believes in the things most Texans believe in -- hard work, honesty and playing by the rules. Unfortunately for the decent people of District 22, their congressman has ignored two out of three of those mainstream values. (He does work hard, we'll give him that.) A recent poll by Congressman Nick Lampson found that 48% of DeLay's constituents disapprove of the job he's doing and only 36% are sure they will vote for him. By contrast, 54% said that they either definitely would or would seriously consider voting for a challenger- a challenger with the character and ability of Richard Morrison. With the evidence growing that DeLay used illegal fundraising to force the Texas Legislature into drawing him a new congressional map, an indictment might not be too far away. Such a development ought to ensure Morrison a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. (This is from an e-mail from the state Dem. party.)

2. In a word, yes. Money is the problem for most Dems in Texas. A really
well run, well funded campaign with great amounts of hard hitting TV ads will make the difference. We can triumph with lots and lots of out of state support and lots and lots of (God, I so hate that this is true.) money.

3. Yes, money is very important!!!
And Morrison really needs that type of support right now, to get the campaign moving!

This case goes way beyond districts... no matter how far from District 22 you live, you can help by contributing. https://www.onlinecontribution.com/rmorrison/donate.php

5. You're DAMN right he can be defeated!!!!
If there was ever a year that DeLay can be defeated, it is this year. We not only have DeLay about to be indicted and out of touch with his district and hated by all democrats in Texas....

We also have a GREAT candidate ready to BEAT DeLay!

I walked with Richard Morrison in a parade a few weeks ago. He didnt ride, he walked, sometimes ran to keep up. He stopped to shake every hand on the route.

It was absolutely GREAT!

4. Why don't they just indict the little cock roach
and get it over with? Why do they have to drag it out so long? Same thing with Lush Limpball. Why isn't that poison spewing creep in jail? How long are they going to let him remain free to run his foul mouth on the radio? It's time these criminals go to jail.

6. Hopefully, people are working toward that goal but in the meanwhile,
remember dead people and people who are under indictment have been elected. We need this scum unelected.

7. DeLay just seems loathsome. Physically, manners, everything.
I'm new to the state, but aside from he's a Repub, don't people in his district just find him viscerally repellent? He seems like the consumnate Boss Hogg beady eyed corrupt Southern sheriff/politician, with sweatstains in his armpits and his feet up on his desk.

I'm always amazed that people think shrub is so great, but at least in his case I can see if people don't look very closely he might look superficially OK (although I think his loathesomeness is pretty easy to see also). But DeLay? You'd have to be seriously deluded, or just plain greedy and want the graft or whatever he's selling, to vote for him or support him.

8. Have you hated Tom DeLay today?
Thanks for the good news efhmc, we needed some. Good for Charlie Stenholm and Nick Lampson.

I visualize Tom DeLay unemployed everyday, and I'm channeling all my energy to make it so.

I hope that Richard Morrision will be the man who can knock off the bug man. It would be so sweet.

Everyone here, needs to do their part. Kick in a little bit to help Morrison run a good race.

Go Richard Go!

12. Morrison on Air America
I don't post here often, but this is too good not to share ....

Morrison will be on Air America with Janeane Garofalo this Friday night. I don't think we're sure of the time yet, but we know the date. (Oh yeah, like you wouldn't listen to the whole show anyway.)

Also, Lou DuBose (who wrote Shrub with Molly Ivins) and Jan Reid (Senior Texas Monthly editor and great writer) have a book on DeLay coming out mid summer.
