BYU's Hooks pleads guilty in water balloon case

Hooks, 20, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to three misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident in April in which he kicked in two apartment doors while looking for a person who reportedly threw a water balloon at his girlfriend from a third-story window. He will serve 15 days in a work diversion program, which means he won't have to spend any time in jail.

As part of Hooks's plea deal, two counts of felony burglary were dropped. He pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor, and one count of criminal trespass, a class A misdemeanor.

Scott McKinney, Hooks's pastor at Christ Evangelical Church in Orem, characterized the player's actions as an aberration rather than the norm.

"I've known Terrance for a couple years now and this is certainly not a pattern in his life. This was a one-time losing control type of situation," McKinney said. "He is completely trusted by our church, our family. He is a fine young man."
