Romney uses Rocky's backing

Republican Mitt Romney's latest television commercial in his race for governor of Massachusetts features an endorsement from a self-described "liberal Democrat" — Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson.

The former Olympic chief's choice for the 30-second spot is curious, considering that the controversial Anderson is a virtual unknown in Massachusetts, a state where Democrats dominate politics like the GOP does in Utah.

"It's telling that Mitt Romney had to go back to Utah to find a mayor who's supporting him," said Adrian Durbin, the spokesman for Shannon O'Brien, Romney's Democratic opponent.

He is a pretty good mayor. Supports minority rights. Big into recycling. We love him. Single middle aged man with a son. He really gets on republican's nerves. They call him "gay" so they have an excuse to bash him.

USA Today called him America's most liberal mayor. He was a former ACLU lawyer and just won re-election last November (beating out a more moderate Democrat).
