1. You are talking about Bernie Sanders? I didn't know he was
moving to the Senate. That is great news!

2. well, there will be an election first,
of course, but Jeffords is retiring, and Sanders is running for his seat. In all the speculation, I haven't seen any talk about who will run for the newly open House seat.

3. Congratulations Vermont
You're going to have the best Senator in the whole Senate!

No offense to Senator Jeffords who was good too but Bernie is the BEST!

6. here are some names
I got from a dKos post:

GOPers
Aud. Randy Brock
'92 nominee/Gov. Jim Douglas
LG Brian Dubie
Ex-House Speaker Walt Freed
'98 candidate/'04 nominee Jack McMullen
'04 House nominee/ex-USAF pilot Greg Parke
IDX Systems Corp. CEO Richard Tarrant

Dems
'94 nominee/'00 candidate/ex-state Sen. Jan Backus
'04 GOV nominee/Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle
'00 nominee/ex-Aud./state Sen. Ed Flanagan
Sec/State Deb Markowitz
VT Nat'l Guard Maj. Gen. Martha Rainville
'02 GOV nominee/ex-LG Doug Racine
'04 LG nominee/ex-state Sen. Cheryl Rivers
'02 LG nominee/ex-state Sen. Pres. Peter Shumlin
AG Bill Sorrell
Treas. Jeb Spaulding
'90 GOV nominee/state Sen. Maj. Leader Peter Welch

Now, for just the House seat:
From House Race Hotline:

GOP State chair James Barnett "said there would plenty of GOP interest if there were vacancies up and down the ticket." Barnett: "We would have a good crew of tremendous candidates." Dems, "on the other hand, have no shortage of people eager to run for a statewide office, several of whom already have run, but lost." They are: Sen. Pres. Pro Tem Peter Welch, state Sen. Edward Flanagan, Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle, ex-LG Doug Racine, ex-Sen. Pres Pro Tem Peter Shumlin, ex-state Sen. Cheryl Rivers and ex-state Sen. Jan Backus

7. looks like Kos just listed the top 10 most popular
politicians in the state from each party, most on the list couldnt get elected to a town board let alone the House. Park is a GOP plant and everybody knows it, he's not even a vermonter. On the other hand Cheryl Rivers is seen as crazy even by dems. Dubie and Racine are done, probably wont get elected for any post unless on someone elses ticket. I see Freed, Flanagan, Clavelle all thinking about it, but one that would have an easy time at it would be Peter Welch.

8. I have thought about this alot because
I have long suspected this would be it for Jeffords and I think Sanders would make a wonderful senator but for the house seat Sara Brannon Kittell comes to mind as one I would be very proud to send to Washington
