Oh Joy! KIRO fired Brian "Baloney" Maloney
One less right-wing jerk on local radio! He got fired for pushing the issue about Dan Rather and CBS News obtaining the Bush National Guard documents.

My day just got better!

1. Yay! Glad to hear it.
Now if KXL in Portland would just fire Lars Larson, my day would be a lot better, too. Not that I listen to his drivel, but just knowing he's on the air offends me. Glad KPOJ is now carrying Air America. Can't pick it up where I live, but every time I head west over the Cascades, I get my local AAR "fix"!

BUSH MUST GO!!

3. Misleading
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 10:25 AM by sally343434
The story goes he got fired for criticizing CBS. Don't believe it. His on-air remarks were weeks before he was fired.

It was his show's inability to get advertisers and an audience that did him in. If he got good ratings, he wouldn't have been let go.

I suspect he's using this story simply to get some press coverage to help him get a job down the dial at KKKVI, where Rush and all the Rush wannabees are broadcast. Notice how KIRO's owner Entercom is doing him a favor by not commenting on any of this.

4. Let's see...who is next?
Lou Pate: If he goes it will most likely be because he got another radio gig elsewhere. He hates Seattle so it's a matter of time.

Peter Weissbach: He is probably going to be the one who will carry the right wing torch on KIRO now the Baloney Man is gone. Most likely to take over for Lou Pate's time slot once he goes.

Dori Monson: Wasn't he a Democrat at one time? He did pull a Dennis Miller after 9/11/01. Unfortunately, he ain't going anywhere.

Don't take these assumptions to heart. It is just my speculations.

7. The probable real reason - he criticized Dave Ross
Baloney has been harping on Dave Ross over the past couple months on every show. You don't acidly criticize other hosts on your own station! Particularly when they have a premium weekday slot and you have a couple hours on the weekends.

I really think that the CBS angle that Baloney is promulgating is a blatant lie. Of course, this would just be par for the course for him. Now that Drudge has picked it up, be prepared for the whiners...

8. Good point!
I must admit I make great strides to shut off KIRO whenever Baloney came on. I am certain he would be so low to put down a fellow talk show host like Dave Ross. The guy was an a-hole through and through. He makes Lou Pate more tolerable. I would love to know what Mike Webb's reaction to this news is.

9. If you notice the other hosts...
If you notice the other hosts, you'll note that they all - liberal or conservative or in-between - refuse to discuss other hosts on their shows to the point to cutting off callers who attempt to criticize other hosts. It's good business practice, plain and simple. If you have someone running around ragging on the other hosts, you decrease listeners.

There was also the little matter of Baloney espousing his hatred of Seattle on each nad every show. I know that I sent one email to management regarding that. (I swear to god the only times I listened to KIRO while he was on were unintentional, yet still I heard him gab about Ross on at least three occassions.)

Shame that Baloney has this Rather out that he's trying to pull. I assume that KIRO isn't allowed under labor laws to say why he was fired. The perfect retort to this is that his sub host yesterday, Gary Ryan, spent an hour calling for CBS to be fined by the FCC and for Rather to be fired. Whoops! Well, there goes that excuse...

11. I think he was fired for several reasons
The CBS flap was probably the last of many. He continued to accuse Kerry of marital infidelity after this was proven wrong as well as push the swift boat lies.

I fully expect read about Maloney getting arrested for soliciting in a public men's restroom a la George Michael. Something about that guy makes me think he's unsure about his sexuality.

10. if there was any justice at all
a progressive should be given that slot - to better reflect the political leaning of the Seattle metro area. I just checked the state auditors page, and the blue votes are beating the reds by close to 200,000. Should i hold my breath while i wait?

12. One more reason for Maloney's firing - Seahawks Football
Seriously. All day on Sunday is devoted to Seahawks pre-pregrame, pregame, game, postgame, and post-postgame. That added to his slamming of Dave Ross probably tipped the bucket. Would you keep someone on the payroll that worked one day a week for six months and decided to start slamming the biggest personality on the station?

And I know that some of the other weekend hosts have criticized Rather, as well as Lou Pate. I haven't listened to Dori Monson recently, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had too. This is simply a MacGuffin that Baloney is floating to get publicity. What a whore.
