NW Roots conference: support Pelosi
Support Pelosi; Call, write, contribute--whatever. The administration is reported to be giving her the cold shoulder during meetings for going against them on Social Security and Medicare cuts. Also, remind the president of his campaign promises.

This forwarded from David Spring:

Friends,

At the NW Roots conference yesterday, both Kucinich and McDermott said they had just talked with Pelosi about Obama's plan to cut Social Security and Medicare. According to them, Pelosi has been calling every member of the Democratic Progressive Congressional Caucus in the entire country. As a group, they are united in their intention to hold the line on these two issues. They recognize that caving on these extremely important programs would be the death of the Democratic Party and political suicide. They claim they have the votes to prevent these extremely unwise cuts. So Pelosi is taking this threat seriously and she is going to stand up for our Senior Citizens.

There is no question that this is a defining moment in the history of our nation and for the future of the Democratic Party. Nearly every one of us has a parent or loved one who is dependent on Social Security and Medicare to allow them to retire with dignity. Even Republicans have parents! So I am hopeful that Progressive Democrats will be able to stop this unwise plan in its tracks.

I am not so hopeful that there will be an agreement on raising the debt limit. There appears to be a large group of Crazies in Congress hell bent on destroying our country and crashing our economy just to bring down Obama and reduce his chances of re-election. This is one more reason for all of us to work hard on remaining politically active. The future of our country literally hangs in the balance with every election.

Regards, David Spring
