Official--Rossi by 42 measely votes
http://www.komotv.com/stories/34102.htm

There will be at least a partial hand recount, according to the State Democratic Chair, Paul Berendt

Secretary of State Sam Reid has called a press conference for 3 PM Pacific Time--It'll be close to official by then.

(The SecState officially certifies on Dec 2, I believe)

The State Website is now listing Kitsap's count--here's what will get certified:

Christine Gregoire Democrat 1,372,442 votes 48.8702% +1289
Dino Rossi Republican 1,372,484 votes 48.8717% +1070
Ruth Bennett Libertarian 63,416 votes 2.2581% +70

The hand-recount is a certainty--but on what scale remains uncertain. Its pretty damned important, though. We had an error-rate between counts that approached one-tenth of a percent statewide, and one county (Adams) with one out of every 124 votes IGNORED in the first count. Unfreaking acceptable....

1. Surely Bush V Gore means that partial recounts are
unconstitutional due to equal protection violation?...so would have to be all or nothing?

2. I thought WA state law only allowed for hand counts in selected counties
by request.
In other words, Gregoire can't ask for statewide hand counts.
I would love to see a statewide manual count (of all the races).

3. One candidate can request hand counts in selected counties ...
but if that results in a new leader, a hand count in the rest of the state will be required.

in the scope of the numbers involved. The Pukes will throwing money around now. They don't have the courts in their pocket here though. But if you look at the big picture, this country is divided so badly, no matter who wins, 50% aren't being represented. How did we come to find ourselves in this situation? We are 2 countries, with completely different values and views of the world. The concept of one government fits all doesn't apply anymore.

7. There should be a
revote off Diebold machines wherever they were used, that's why this is happening.

14. The Gregoire Campaign can ask for a partial or whole recount...
If partial, any combination of complete precincts is allowed - whether it be broken out by counties, towns, area codes, whatever.

If a partial recount is completed, and there is enough change in those ballots recounted to cause an outcome-determinate change (e.g. if Gregoire were to be up by an additional 42 votes after the partial recount), then the Secretary of State's Office would be compelled to complete a full recount of the remainder of the state that had not been recounted a third time.

The choice of how much of the state to be recounted will be driven in good part by cost and the effectiveness of fundraising for the Democrats' recount war chest.

6. PLEASE VOTE IN THIS POLL.
E-mail from Gregoire campaign:

King 5 news is running an online poll asking people whether the closest governor's race in our state's history should be ended now that only 42 votes out of 3 million cast separate the candidates. The Republican party has sent out an email to their supporters asking them to stack the poll against Chris. Don't let them. Log on now and cast your vote for Chris.

Thank you,
Chris Hayler

10. Done. Repukes in general are nasty but the Rossi campaigners
have been the worst of the lot recently. What a bunch of friggin crybabies...saying he won while things were STILL be counted. How unfair it was of Gregoire supporters to demand recounts. Well ya friggin moran, what do you think Gregoire supporters should do? Lie down and take it?? Bullshit.

42 votes? Either way-there needs a recount to be done. I hated seeing that POS DEMANDING Gregoire concede. "Yeah, asshat. She should quit while YOU'RE ahead. Fuck counting ALL the votes!" :grr:

13. Even if Rossi wins he has no mandate
He got less than 50% of the vote by lying through his teeth about his legislative record.

There's a reason King County voted 3 to 2 against Rossi and it's not because of liberal Seattle. Seattle makes up only one third of the county's population. The reality is the citizens of King county know that Rossi is nothing but a lacky to the real estate industry.

16. that is, though
the Thug version of a mandate. Listen to the cheney bush junta. they keep saying THEY have a mandate. To them, seizing office using ANY tactic, legal or not=mandate to the Thugs.

The Thug spokesmodel is reading off the national Thug script.

17. Well they always say.. every vote counts! eesh did they count every vote?
HAHA I had dinner with a couple who are republicans.. we talked about the recount all that for a little bit, I told them I didn't like either of them and I said I dint like Gregoire, because she reminds me of a republican. The woman, who really isn't into politics at all just listens to what her fiance says (:eyes:) "I hope those are not the traits of republicans, shes gross."

I realllllllllllly wanted to say "well republicans are gross"

I mean how can they not be? Look at the famous repubs, Limbaugh, Rove, Ashcroft, cheney! I mean ewwwwwwwwwwww they're icky!!! :puke:

And end rant!

18. I own land in Chelan County and will be living there by this summer
Edited on Sat Nov-27-04 12:07 AM by marlakay
I told my husband they need us on the east side. I saw that it wasn't so bad about 55% red and 45% blue. So I figure if I slowly work from the inside it will help.

I am the type of person who doesn't give up easy. I am friendly, outgoing, use to go to church for years, but haven't in awhile, but I understand how they believe and I think that will help me to work with these misguided souls who think voting Republican is going to save them from hell!

19. Welcome to Eastern Washington, Marlakay!
Waving at you from Ferry County, up by the border. Get involved in the Dem Central Committee meetings for Chelan County, good way to meet some interesting people!
Eastern Washington used to be Democrat until the 70's or so, but the Republicans scared everyone over here with Gun Control, so this big land with few people went Republican. The Republicans continue to scare the populace more than the Dems reassure them. The good thing is that your neighbor will give you the shirt off their back, but don't like people being too close to them, self sufficiency and all that.
The telling statistic is that in OUR county, 50% of the population is classified as disabled(lotta retirees, snowbirds, and broken loggers, miners, ranchers).
I love it, as a transplanted "coastie" from Seattle for the last almost 30 years.
The BEST part: No slugs or mold!
:hi:

21. No slugs or mold in the traditional sense of the word.
The John Birch Society movement of the 70's sure brought the slugs and moldy old racists, rednecks, and right wing religious nuts out of the woodwork here in northeast WA.

22. Thanks!
My brother-n-law that lives in Spokane has talked to us about how much everyone loves their guns in that area so it makes sense.

I still think the best way is communication and really letting people know the truth without acting like your a know it all or better. Just slowly, very slowly let them see the truth.

I think most republicans and strong christians feel it is a sin to vote the other way so you have to very careful tear that down.

I think I might get to know some local pastors. Got to work at the top! But I also will meet with the local dems to.

20. And apparently about 75K left the Gov Ballot section empty!
Completely blank - didn't vote for anyone for Governor though they marked other parts of the ballot.

And apparently there may have been several hundred write-ins for Simms which went totally for a waste.

Gregoire must be pulling her hair out.
