Does the Seattle City Council decide on anything anymore? Does anyone else feel this way? Isn't it their job to decide on major issues of the day? Can't they make a decision and stand for it, or is it all about political posturing and what if thinking? And why confuse people into thinking their opinion matters?
If the Gov is to make the ultimate decision why bother putting anything on a ballot, all she has to do is check opinion pols, after all. Does anybody else get the feeling our "great leadership vacuum" is gonna screw things up again?

christine won't decide until after she's reelected in 2008. hitting the rest of the state for seattle's waterfront would be a death knell for her campaign.

I hate to sound jaded, but maxsolomon, that is exactly how I feel.
I love this city, and pray to God that they will get it right this time. The point of my post is why can't they make a decision one way or another? So the city council doesn't have the authority to sign off and give us a tunnel or a new viaduct. Great. Support one option or support another option. Just pick one. Just do soemthing that makes sense.
If only the national political climate would change, we could think more reasonably about the tunnel and possibly get federal support. The Viaduct is an essential highway link for the entire city. We simply cannot dream this highway away. If industry and business is to survive they must be able to get around when I-5 is clogged, which is often, anymore.
Nay-saying rednecks in rural parts of the state who say no to funding big projects in Seattle need get a grip and realize that without businesses that operate here, their quality of life is lessened.

The council also decided not to put the question to a public vote. After new estimates this week raised the costs for the replacing the viaduct, council members decided they are in a better position to choose options.

Now will the DOT endorse it, or-and-when-how will they come up with the money for it? Or will they just replace it? and so it continues...
