Horsey: Primary day in Washington

Being a transplant from a state where I never had to identify with a party, I kind of find this "pick a party" thing alien.

I'm tired of the Democrats being tarred with the Republican brush.

A large majority of Washington voters do not and never have strongly identified with any party. That is why so many voters got royally pissed when the major parties got the blanket primary tossed; that is why Initiative 872 (which created the Top Two primary) passed in 2004 with 60% of the vote.

If I had not intended to vote against Maria Cantwell in the primary, I would have done exactly what I had done in the last two elections: vote only the non-partisan part of the ballot, then got harassed by election workers for being too stupid to select one of the major parties when I tried to turn my ballot in. Believe me, I know exactly how the man in the cartoon feels.

if you don't want to pick a party, then you don't have to. but you don't get a say in that party's candidate.

pick which ever one you want to have a say in.

like when i voted for ellen cranston for governor! i was GOP all the way!

Lots of Dems crossed over in the primary that year...Craswell's victory was almost like having Gary Locke running unopposed that November.
