2. Byrd made W. Virgina a suburb of D.C.;
Brought a ton of Federal money into an otherwise impoverished state...the people there know where their bread is buttered.... Gun issues or no gun issues ;He will be back.

3. That Turned The State Red Didn't It
Or helped (Bush winning both times in WV) at least?

As you remember-- those 5 votes would have been mighty nice in 2000.

15. What About Shelby?
If the Dems retake the Senate by any sort of comfortable margin in '06, do you think Shelby would flip-flop again? And, more importantly, would that be a good thing?

Also, is there any credible opposition to Sessions? That hidebound moron needs to go, like, yesterday. Seeing him looking for a dead millionaire from Katrina to prop up the estate tax repeal was truly disgusting. Is Roger Bedford still any kind of a political factor?

6. Here's a way to help
Adenoid,

I think you're right. The out-of-state GOP slime machine has already started telling LIES to defame Senator Byrd. Byrd was quick to respond to the recent TV ad with one of his own, to defend himself.

That's good, but I think it would be a lot more fun to go on the offense with an ad that's critical of Smelly Moore Crapito, and let her see if she can defend herself.

I'm going to donate to the fund raising cause at:

http://actblue.com/list/wv2ndfund

I hope, but do not know for certain, that they will use my contribution to support just such an effort, and more.

Now that is what I am talking about. If Democrats have any sense at all they will do this. Stop with the "nice guy" role because we all know nice guys finish last. Shelley would scramble to counter this move and it would ruin her name across the state.

Damn, why won't Democrats grow a spine! I am gonna see what can be done to get this accomplished.

12. they wish they could McGraw him
It was meant to be so such a brutal campaign Byrd would be forced to withdraw for health reasons. But MoveOn raised $55,000 to counter the negative ads so quickly they're having second thoughts. Byrd knows what they're about, he's been fighting them for years.

8. Byrd will DEFINITELY win.
There's not a county in the state that doesn't have SOMETHING named after RCB, and in most counties, several somethings. The man is a legend in WV, he's the longest-serving current Senator, and the racists of the state love him, because of his past association with the KKK. The ONLY legitimate issues that the Rightists will be able to pick away at are gun rights and his age. Of course, I fully expect them to just make shit up, because, well, that's what they do, but I don't think that it'll be enough to unseat him.

There are still a lot of men in the state who simply won't vote for a woman, regardless of her qualifications, or in this case, lack thereof. She's only got six years as a U.S. Representative, a few years serving in various low-key state offices, and an implied association with her corrupt father, Arch. If the Byrd campaign is smart, they'll point out that she's got almost no experience compared to him and include subtle messages that play on the inherent misogyny that still pervades parts of the state.

9. Byrd will win
but out of state money will try to do him in.

I wish Capito would run, just so Byrd could beat him, I mean her, and then a dem could win her seat in the House.
