W Virginian headed to Crawford -- anyone need a ride?
I will be heading out Thursday or Friday from the Eastern Panhandle of WV to support Cindy Sheehan. Willing to take along someone from WVa or VA. (I'll be coming down the I-81 corridor then to I-40, just in case there's anyone from Tenn or Ark looking for a ride.) Have station wagon so there's ample room. I smoke so if that really bothers you please don't ask.

If you'd like to come along please send a message to my private inbox (DU).

2. I admire your dedication
Wow, and you're going from way out in the eastern panhandle! You'll put in a day's drive before you ever cross the state line!

It would be good if you were able to arrive in Crawford by Wednesday morning. The SS has threatened to arrest Cindy Sheehan and all her supporters on Thursday, but some speculate the arrests might occur a day earlier, on Wednesday. You wouldn't want to miss that action, I would think.

Have you contacted the West Virginia Democratic Party web site? It might be a good idea to give them a call to see if anyone would be willing to coordinate efforts like yours.

Here's their web site that lists their voice & fax phone numbers, as well as an email address.

Sadly, we in Boone County just lost our first soldier in Iraq.

The Coal Valley News
Boone County soldier killed in Iraq
June 8, 2005
By: Jacob Messer

...His mother wants an opportunity to speak with President George W. Bush. “I would give him a piece of my mind,” she said, sobbing, “and he wouldn’t like what I would tell him.”

She blames Bush for the tragedy – a senseless death in a pointless war, she contends.

“There is no way to describe the pain we feel,” she said. “There is a hole in our lives that will never be filled.

“And for what?”

3. I'd like to be there Weds...
... but on such short notice I just can't make the necessary arrangements in time. As it is I'm going to be pressed.

I'm so sorry to hear about Boone County's first Iraq casualty -- if you happen to have any contact with Mrs Ulbrich, please tell her I am going to stand for Scotty.

6. Crawford-bound
You drive carefully, and, when you get there, tell Cindy and the other folks that there are a bunch of West Virginians who are very proud of what they are doing. My nephew leaves for Iraq soon, and I'm terrified of what my happen to him. God bless you all!

7. Proud to represent WVA

We'll do our very best to honor your nephew, along with the thousands of other young men and women ordered into an illegal war by a lying adminstration, by demanding an end to this bloody charade. Anyone who truly supports the troops must, on their behalf, demand the truth -- something of which this administration seems incapable.

George Bush, along with an historical succession of notoriously paranoid rulers, has confused loyalty to himself with loyalty to the nation. Our servicemen and women do not take an oath to Bush, but to defend the Constitution of the United States. Mr Bush was supposed to have taken that same oath, one he has broken time and again.

Best to you and your nephew -- tell him we wish him well and will fight the good fight for him back here at home.
