Rahall, Maynard blast each other in debate
Also posted in LBN

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall and Republican challenger Elliott "Spike" Maynard pummeled each other during a bare-knuckle debate Tuesday night over everything from mudslinging TV ads to coal mining.

<snip>

"The generals in the war on coal today are Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and the folks at the EPA," Maynard said. "The want to abolish surface mining."

Rahall gave no ground, saying he opposes Obama and Pelosi on issues such as gay marriage, abortion and firearms.

"Oh, Spike, you of all people to raise guilt by association," Rahall said. "I've disagreed with the administration and the Speaker of the House."
