Progressive Pages- Need your feedback!
I just visited DancingBear's thread about wanting to come up with a directory of Repuke businesses to boycott and provide decent progressive alternatives for folks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2587076&mesg_id=2587076&page=

I'd like to help any way I can to compile this book.

Here's what I need from ya'll:

Give me the names and approximate locations of any local WV businesses you saw the last year or so with Bush/Cheney signs outside, behind the counters or in windows. Any "I support President Bush and our troops?" or anything equivalent?

Alternately, provide the names and approximate addresses of progressive or Democratic owned or Democratic-supporting businesses you can recommend instead.

Let us know about good AND bad experiences you've had patronizing good or bad businesses all over the state!

Thanks everybody!
Let's hear em!

1. I heard
a rumor about a restaurant called "First Watch" here in Charleston that segregated Kerry supporters from Bush supporters. Don't know how true it is - but they're located on Capitol Street. It's funny because before I knew that place was a restaurant, I always thought it was some weird cult.

2. Interesting!
Can you find out more and get back to us? Was it something to benefit Bush supporters, Kerry supporters? Both or either? I'm curious about this!

6. I received
an e-mail from the Democratic party about this - sorry, I've already deleted the e-mail. They said Kerry supporters had complained & felt segregated & that the restaurant clearly supported Bush. The next day, I received another e-mail about First Watch's response - they said this wasn't true. But, of course they're going to deny this ... the original e-mail said to boycott the restaurant and that it wouldn't be hard b/c the food isn't that good, anyway. I'm sure they were worried about losing quite a bit of business - b/c Charleston, from what I've seen since I moved here 2 years ago, is heavily Democratic.

By the way - where are you all from in WV? It's nice to have some Mountaineers on here!! We've got some major work to do in our great state!! Mandate my ass...

7. Too bad it's deleted.
I would have liked to have read it! Oh well!

I'm actually in Texas. But I remember listening to a Prairie Home Companion from Charleston a few weeks ago, and for the most part the people sounded very cool.

Thanks for the feedback, Mountaineers!

3. ah shit......
why didn't i think about doing this earlier?

the only "wv businesses" i've been boycotting basically, for these reasons and/or others, have been the out-of-state corporations operating here (re: the wal-marts of the world).

otherwise..... i can think of some businesses (using the term loosely) operated by candidates, one son of a bitch who used $1,000 of *our* taxpayer dollars to fund a "welcome president bush" sign in our local paper for a campaign visit, while using the sorry excuse that it was ok since they'd have done it for john kerry had he visited, when they knew the chances of that were about the same as them having ethics. consequently though when john edwards came, twice, there was nothing for him..... so they could've easily used the money they said they'd use for kerry there.

well any, back around to his business, it's not exactly something most would spend money on. it's a production company, i believe. and the other i can think of right off, is a law firm.

i wish i'd have been doing this before, but i'm sure i can come up with some more, this, and i think the converse (progressive dem businesses, 'cause just bein' a democrat in west v. is hardly enough, as we can see) is a really good idea. i'm pretty good about putting my money where my mouth is, 'cause i like to match the two as best i can, so i appreciate it.

5. .
at some point, i'm going to go back through and give more than just a cursory glance at wv contributors..... really dig through them. and as well, i may likely just start asking businesses straight out, and if they refuse, i understand, but sorry i can't patronize your establishment(s) until i know.....

so, i will send those details later, hopefully soon. thanks for doing this, by the way

8. the UPS store in barboursville, wv
run by two rightwingers who regualrly allow rightwing homophobe tom roaten to his show from thir store. roten disgustingly made fun of PTA efforts to end harassment of gay teens while at the UPS store

the owner of the store happens to be the principal at a local middle school. he should fuckin resign for encouraging intimidation of his students
