This time the Nightmare crowd got front page coverage on the local paper.

1. Nightmare?
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 10:55 AM by Dolomite
"Audiences walk from room to room, and take in scenes that vary from teen drinking parties to living rooms with adults screaming at each other."

I've grown accustomed to calling these events "Family Thanksgiving at my sister's place " or, "Family Christmas at my sister's place".

Where's the room featuring the scene where the youth preacher molests the misguided teen sheep at the Motel 6?

2. Doncha just love the smell of fundie in the fall?
What on earth makes the local editor think this needs front page coverage? They've been doing this for over a decade and it's gotten press nearly every year. What about it is news, exactly?

4. I was wondering what the hell that was...
We drove by it coming down from a wrestling show in Spencer on Saturday and there was a sign in the middle of the backside of a big road closed barrier. All it said was "NIGHTMARE" with an arrow. We thought it was a haunted house, not some sort of christian morality play. Bleh. If I would have known that I would have driven through the sign. :)

6. I just noticed those signs yesterday.
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 09:14 AM by sybylla
It's not every day a christian group gets to put up a billboard in the middle of a state highway. Maybe we need to make a few phone calls and complain.

And what kind of wrestling thing was taking place in Spencer? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that you could be in the area and not invite me to join you. :P

Tell me it wasn't professional wrasslin'.

7. Of course it was professional wrestling. :-P
It's what I do. :) The UWF's next one is going to be Sat. November 12th in Spencer. In the meantime all those boys have my shows to wrestle on down here in Oshkosh. (We provide free wrestling shows to the open public)

Guess you didn't know that about me? :)

Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 02:54 PM by sybylla
And I also didn't know you did that in little ol' Spencer. PM me before you're up here in November and maybe MadAsHell and I will pop in to see you.

Do you advertise at all because I didn't see a thing in the papers?

11. I didn't advertise...
The group is different than mine so I just usually go up there and watch and hang out with the guys, although some of my guys work their shows and vice versa. If you want to see me in action come on down to Oshkosh on Nov. 19th. I have a hell of a match scheduled for myself to be in on that date (it's our biggest show of the year, SuperCard).

12. Sorry, That's opening weekend of deer hunting.
I'll be freezing my behind off in the northwoods just a few mile south of the border waiting for some mighty fine venison to walk past.

Bet you didn't know that about me either. ;)

Just for that, no tasty venison sausage for you. :7

Thanks for the good wishes. If I actually get something this year, I'll say 7 Hail Ed's before evicerating it.

You always had a take no prisoners thing going on. I just thought the guns might be pointed at certain ridiculous right wingers. j/k :-P

Good luck on the hunt.

15. LOL, no
I prefer certain ridiculous right wingers rot in an assylum (or a jail) 'til by slow, painful death they do part.

And thanks for the good wishes. I'm sure I'll need them. There's nothing like spending a day alone in the woods to remind you of your place in the world. Taking a deer is really secondary for me.

8. Just took a drive
down that way to see what you were talking about. There are signs on HWY 13 and also on Lincoln over by the Schierl Tires store. I also noticed that the Church got their own "turnoff" off of the limited access highway that's being built instead of having access only off of the new frontage road.

10. Yeah, I noticed the turn-off thing too
I thought no one was going to have through there unless their property was immediately on 13.

All I can say is WTF. The fundies better be paying for it - oh wait, churches don't pay taxes.

Might not hurt for a city resident to complain about the use of public property to advertise a private organization. (hint, hint) Maybe tell them you have an organization that would love to have a billboard in the middle of a state highway like that and hope they would provide them the same opportunity.

5. Front page news???
Ed, why don't you ask the editor if they paid for that benefit, and if your favorite non-profit can expect the same kind of treatment from the paper?

:puke:

17. Ahh yes, the Nightmare....
I know a number of UWSP students who go to this thing drunk and stoned off their asses and give it the MST3K treatment while going through it.

21. MST3K=Mystery Science Theater 3000
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 04:54 PM by JonathanChance
It was a TV show in the 90s. They'd show a really craptastic old B-Movie and they'd have a guy and a couple of robots making smartass comments throughout the flick.
