Got your snow shovel handy?
Looks like a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night...m.e.a.s.u.r.a.b.l.e...S. N. O. W.!

The co-op just picked up my snow blower (which sat idle last year because of my health) and they're going to try to get it back to me by Wednesday but I suspect I'll be shoveling by hand.

We knew it was coming but somehow....well...I'm still not ready yet.

How 'bout you?????????

I just helped the SO pick out an 8 hp 2 stage Ariens electric start, self propelled, power steering snow thrower.

I am NOT wanting to fire that puppy up until AT LEAST Thanksgiving Day!

3. That's what I've got
and Ariens 824....
8hp, 24 inch cut 2-stage, self-propelled...no power steering and no electric start....

but may trade it in on a Torro with electric start.

19. Ariens is a SUPER EVIL company!
They make Wal-Mart look Blue. They are the company that asked there employees to vote for Shrub in 2004. Plus my Dad worked for them and told me stories about how very anti-worker they are. My dad's friend got fired for talking about unions.

BOYCOTT ARIENS!!!

6. I'm picking out a new snowblower today
It's going to have electric start because I don't think I could get it going on my own otherwise. I hope my neighbors are nice to me until it gets delivered. Last year they did my driveway twice before we finished moving in. Although now they now I'm a democrat, I'm surrounded by bushites! They've all been very nice and most our one issue voters - who really don't have a clue how nasty bush is. They're too busy with their own worlds to look to the future, even where their kids are concerned.

8. Got a call from the co-op
My blower won't be fixed until NEXT WEEK.....

Okay....either take the trade-in on an new-used blower or head to Fleet Farm for an new snow shovel......

decisions, decisions, decisions.................

My snow bird neighbors left on Friday and I promised I'd keep their sidewalks clean....and then there's the 81-year-old widow neighbor on the east side of my house....so added together thats about 225 feet of sidewalk and three driveways...

10. Ed, why don't you hire someone just for this week?
I know, my ego prevents me from doing so, because - well, we're all Wisconsinners. But sometimes you have to think of your health and well-being first.

If we were a little further south, I'd say just let it sit and melt. But up here, I know better.

12. Gotta be "recovered"
sometime.....so it might as well be now.....

If I overdo it the incision will let me know in a big way and then I'll back off....but so far so good..I've even been able to do a modest amount of wood splitting this fall...just a few at a time but otherwise okay...... :hi:

thanks for the concern.

7. I'm not ready for
a snow storm - ugh! And I'm totally jealous. Seems you've all got some mighty powerful snowblowers. I remove my snow the old fashioned way. Guess it's time to wax my skis.

9. You poor saps in the city, sheesh
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 10:48 AM by sybylla
We don't shovel/blow out our rather generous driveway out here in middle-o-nowhere - not enough time in the world. We drive over the snow. When it gets too deep, we pay someone to come and plow it for us.

Heck, the township doesn't even plow our road until the snow is over three inches and then usually not the first day.

I only man a shovel to clear the walk between the house and the garage.

Once you learn how to make the front wheel drive work for you, it's amazing what a Grand Prix can go through. Of course it's not as good as my old Cavalier was but with a stick shift you have a whole lot more control.

14. That would be so Mad Max!
I'd get a lot of looks, that's for sure. For some reason, MadAsHell isn't into plows. He thinks they are too hard on the vehicles and he thinks way too much of his vehicles, even the crappy ones.

17. BTW, if you decide you need a little help
I have a wrestler in the house who needs to loose a couple of pounds before season starts. I'd think shoveling snow is the perfect exercise for that.

But it'd have to be after school or quite early before school.

Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 12:27 PM by ewagner
Crap!

It's solid ice......

I was afraid that was going to happen when it was preceded by rain last night and then the temp dropped RAPIDLY ...

It's not deep at my place. Maybe only 2-3 inches. But it's SOLID!

How's it by you?

23. I see mini-flurries right now.
I have to squint to see them. In all honesty, my household dust is easier to see in the air. :)

The lake effect is weird. Sometimes we get dumped on while everyone else is clear... and sometimes when everyone else gets socked, it just melts on the way down. (I'm exactly 1 mile inland)

24. Just went out and shoveled
the drifts on the east curb of the driveway....only about three-four inches of snow drifted...but the rest of the ashphalt is coated with a good 1/2" of ICE.....slippery crap too!

The NWS site says the wind is still gusting to 32mph....I believe it.

Just checked the marine forcast...wave heights up by the Saulte are shown at about 18 feet. O-1 foot in Algoma area.

on edit: My son just called..said Whoooopeeeee! " I'm going to see snow for Thanksgiving...." heheheehe Kids!
