Local puke party coming apart at the seams
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 04:52 AM by sybylla
Since January, a battle has been waged in my county between moderate Republicans and the right wing nutjobs who want to control every facet of local Republican politics.

In February, the cops were called to their meeting when the wing nuts objected to the presence of some paid members at the meeting. Eventually things settled down in the presence of the cops, but they still managed to unelect the moderate county party chair and the rest of the moderate exec board resigned. I've since heard that the cops were called to a second meeting but saw no notice of it in the paper.

By April, the moderate Republican mayor of the county seat, Diane Murphy, decided to run against the wingnut assemblyman in our district who just happens to be the wingnuts' pet. Word was, there had been a threat made against the mayor that if she ran, the incumbent wing nut puke assemblyman would run someone against her sister-in-law who is Register of Deeds. The chasm grew.

Then, when it became apparent no one was going to run for the assembly seat on the Dem ticket, the wingnut assemblyman panicked. Now he could be unseated in the primary by a handful of crossover Dems.

So he made good on his threat and had one of his loyal wingnut supporters run on the Dem ticket for the Register of Deeds office against the sister-in-law of his primary opponent. This is supposed to prevent ballot hoppers. But most of us know the interloper won't even get his own vote nor the vote of any puke as they will all be stuck voting on their ballot.

Then what's left of the puke party tries to give the local Dems a black eye by running editorials critical of them for not being able to come up with a candidate willing to run against the lying wingnut assemblyman's dirty campaign machine.

Thank goodness the local Dem party exec board handed them their ass two weeks ago, calling them out in a press release in which they publicly endorsed the sister-in-law and calling on them to condemn the challengers tampering with the primary system. He never advocated crossover voting. Thought it wasn't right for the party to advocate voting for any Republican. It was so nice of the puke wingnuts to make the suggestion in all our weekly papers so the Dems didn't have to.

And now, the pukes make the news again.
Pre-election banter heats up in Clark Co.

NEILLSVILLE - The race for a low-profile elected position in Clark County has gained attention for its potential effect on state representation.

Former Republican Party member Jim Ratsch of Neillsville is a candidate for the county's register of deeds job as a Democrat, prompting a scathing condemnation Monday from Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy, a 69th Assembly District candidate.

<snip>

The current Register of Deeds is Murphy's sister-in-law, Lois Hagedorn of Neillsville, a Democrat. The primary election winner will face Republican candidate Charlotte Rasmussen of the town of Butler in the general election.

"I did this to change the system," Ratsch said. "I don't care if the mayor is bent out of shape. This blind political party partisanship keeps people from looking for another candidate from another party that might be a very good public servant."
He's trying to prevent Democratic voters from crossing party lines to defeat Suder via the primary, which requires straight-ticket voting, Ratsch said.

<snip>

Not only does it come out that the Dem primary challenger, Ratch, has targeted Mayor Murphy's sister-in-law, meaning this is personal (since there were three other dems incumbents on our side of the ticket and he choose to challenge the sister-in-law), but once again it make news that the Dems might just crossover and vote the wingnut assemblyman out of office.

It's becoming such a little Peyton Place here.

I think if our county Dem party exec board plays this right, we could have it suggested at least once a week in the local newspapers that Dems crossover and never have to say it ourselves. The day Scott Suder, aka Scooter, loses his seat is the day I shall be dancing in the street.
