1. Um, RL, go to Google Maps and search driving directions to Skokie, IL...
The road that takes you there, from Milwaukee, is... HWY 94. It's east/west to The Cities, but winds south through Chicago.

Live in Milwaukee, born and raised in Chicago. I get the directions...

But the Highway signs never say 94S. Always 94E or 94W.

Sign is still funny and unfortunately so very true...

4. I stopped paying atttention a long time ago, apparently.
In the Twin Cities, Hwy 35E (sic) is the four-lane north, out of downtown St. Paul. And 35W takes you south, from downtown Mpls. through Bloomington, down to Northfield, and Faribault. So 94W running north/south, Milwaukee to Chicago, doesn't surprise me in the least.
