2. I participated in something like it more than 10 years ago
when I lived in IL. I just found out about this last week, so I haven't done it yet, but I will probably order a variety of things next month to see what's good.

3. It looks very similar to "Angel Foods" . . .
We participated in Angel Foods when we lived in Illinois and it was a life savor. I didn't realize there was anything like this in Wisconsin and it was right down the road from us too. They don't do a very good job of advertising it obviously because we were getting some food from the food pantry and it was never mentioned. I actually emailed Angel Foods at one time and asked them to come to Wisconsin! They said they planned too sometime in 2008 but those plans may have changed as they have cut back on their locations (our closest one in Illinois was closed) and raised the prices. Since they truck the food all over the country, I am sure increased fuel prices were the reason for that. Angel Foods didn't have an income qualifier, maybe Share doesn't either. The food was good, nothing day old or out of date like you might get from the food pantry.

4. Share WI also serves northern Illinois and the upper Penninsula
and there is a list of other programs around the country:

I've never heard of an income requirement for a food buying club. I actually knew a lot of students who used the one in IL, because they didn't all have cars for going to the grocery store and it saved money. As the economy gets worse, I suspect more people will be looking for a way to save on food costs.

5. I did for several years...
My church back in Ohio was a Share Site. We did distribution for the neighborhood. The food was typically pretty good.
