Federal disaster aid tops $67 million after summer storms
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:53 PM by undeterred
MADISON — Federal agencies have poured more than $67 million of disaster relief into Wisconsin following heavy storms and flooding this summer.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Thursday the money includes nearly $45 million from FEMA for housing and other individual needs.

The rest was as low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBA provided more than $22 million to homeowners, renters and business owners.

A FEMA spokesman says the agency is still getting more than 100 applications each day for disaster aid.

More than 37,000 residents registered for aid in the 30 state counties declared eligible for assistance.

The damage was caused following heavy rainfall in June in the southern two-thirds of the state.

I wonder if Wisconsin would have received so much aid if this were not an election year.
