Ballet in Madison -
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 02:56 PM by mzteris
La Fille Mal Gardee is being performed at the Wisconsin Union Theater:

Saturday March 21st at 7:30 pm
Sunday March 22nd at 2:30 pm

Tickets are $20-25 with discounts for students, senior citizens, and groups.

“La Fille Mal Gardée” is a 19th Century comedy ballet about a young girl infatuated with a peasant boy. Her mother wants her to marry a rich man’s son, so she has to hook up with her true love on the sly. It includes humor, romance, dancing chickens, a dramatic storm, a beautiful maypole dance and a happy ending. La Fille was a great innovation because it was the first comedy ballet. It was also the first ballet about ordinary people in a contemporary society. Previously ballet had been in groups of unrelated dances, spectacle designed to glorify kings or stories base on classical tragedies.

This Ballet is VERY kid-friendly, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's JUST for kids. It's not only funny and the story-line very easy to follow, but it is beautifully danced as well.

Please come and support the Arts in Madison. With today's economic climate, financing for the arts has been drastically curtailed (as witnessed by The Madison Ballet canceling the rest of their season.)

Dance Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that sponsors a pre-professional regional dance company in SE Wisconsin for those who are willing to devote their time and energy to perfecting the art of dance. his provides the vehicle for young dancers who want to go beyond their studio dance companies. These dancers want to be pushed to the limit, to excel and to reach their dream of being the best possible Our productions offer the opportunity for young people to explore new heights, learn teamwork, commitment, and gain a sense of pride in accomplishing something truly extraordinary.

In addition, Dance Wisconsin opens the door for youngsters who may never have the opportunity to learn about dance with a program called "Dance in the Schools" in Madison.

DW is more than just a dance group. It's people making a difference in our community. It's a big commitment. The more support they have, the bigger impact in giving young people the opportunity to follow their dreams.
