While a lot of attention is being paid to protests in Madison
people in Milwaukee have been busy too. I was on the campus of UW-Milwaukee today and ran into an enthusiastic demonstration for public employees and against Walker's budget proposals. I don't know how many people were there but it appeared to be quite a few and blocked the plaza between the Union and the Library. Speeches were being made by students who seemed to have a good grasp of the issues and how they would affect their lives and educations. I am a 1970 college graduate and it seemed almost like old times (I was beginning to wonder when we were going to take over the ROTC building but then remembered UWM doesn't have one). Anyway, I have once in awhile bemoaned the lack of political awareness and involvement of college kids these days but today I was proud of them!
