Moore learns the ropes in D.C.
She finds her footing during orientation week

Washington - During Gwen Moore's orientation to Congress over the past week, she lunched with the president, gave an interview to C-SPAN and learned what to do in a chemical attack.

The week saw her suffer culture shock, sticker shock and sore knees, but none seemed to dampen her determination.

"Being ready to start on day one is our priority," the 53-year-old representative-elect said. "I'm a fairly serious legislator, and this is not my retirement job. I'm here to get things done. What I intend to do is not bury my talent."

Moore, 14 other Democrats and 23 Republicans went through the orientation in advance of being sworn in Jan. 4.

Each newcomer to the House of Representatives was given a BlackBerry hand-held communication device, a laptop, a mountain of briefing books, guidance on security and a cubicle in the Rayburn House Office Building's basement. After a lottery, they chose the offices they'll inhabit next year.

3. Hopefully soon. Fridays are good for me again.
I'm sure this soon will be bad for most people, but hopefully we can get together a big group of SE WI people soon. I'd even travel to Madison for a DU bash.

4. Let's pick a night and go for it!
If it ends up being just you and me, then we can go drop stuff off a viaduct or something.

2. I am absolutely thrilled to have Gwen Moore in DC
She is a great progressive and we need that now more than ever. I know she will fight to the death and I wish her all the best in her first term.
