I want a Madison DU meetup!
There seems to be quite a few people from Madison and vicinity. It would be really cool to meet at a nice brew-pub for a get together and some festivities (and some commiseration).

Who's wit me???

7. Hey I signed up for this meet-up thing, but it wants me to pay
to email beyond my initial post. What are we supposed to do with this information? Are you setting it up?

Thanks for working on this.

9. The basic Meetup account is free ...
There is a free message board, and Meetup itself automatically sends out email notifications to all group members on events, etc.

It only costs money to become a Meetup+ member, which allows you to email directly to other members (a Private Message sort of function).

Good luck !!!

10. I think the only way this is going to happen is to set a date
time and place and see if anyone shows up. What do you think?

11. I'd say mid-to-late February
But that's only so I can join you all after I move. :)

Is a weekend better for everyone? Or weeknight? Maybe the 18th or 19th? Where?

13. Saturday night is best for me
How about Saturday, February 19th? I'd prefer going to a nice brew-pub as I'm kind of an alcoh.. er... connoisseur.

23. Thank you!
Actually, I lived there for 11 years, then Belleville for 2 years, before I moved to Milwaukee for school. Thought I would stay in Brewtown, but then I got engaged to a guy who lives in Madison. Despite our attempts to find him a job here, I was offered so much more money in Madison than here, there was no question where I would go.

My problem is that I no longer know where is a cool place to go, so I'm relying on you folks for the location. Saturdays work for me for the next month.

12. Attention: Madison DU Meetup
I have volunteered to be the organizer for a Madison DU Meetup group. To schedule a meeting I would like to know 1) what is the best time for you: weekday evenings, weekend evenings, or weekend afternoons (Sat or Sun) 2) what is the general area you live in (if you are outside Madison which way are you coming from). After that I will suggest a couple of times and places and we can vote. Once we can get together it will be easier to talk about how often to meet and where.

Please sign up on this forum http://du.meetup.com/21/ so it will be easier to contact everyone at least in the beginning. When we get a time and place set we can post it on the DU Wisconsin board. (Generally I think its better to contact each other on the meetup board).

Please contact me through DU mail or the DU meetup page, NOT by posting here. If you want to give me your DU name/real name and phone number or email address to me that will help.

Thanks!

Pay no attention to what the Meetup Forum posts for events- its up to us.

15. M2000, read my above post...
AllyCat and I have been chatting about an informal meeting at a local establishment on February 19th. I'm not sure I would be able to make regular meetings, but I think it would be prudent to have an informal get-together before we take that step. You never know, we might find out we can't stand one another!

What do you think?

24. I already know LeftaDissenter and we get along okay
I'm sure the rest of you are good folks too. I think the 19th sounds good or the 27th. May have recently converted Repblican fiance in tow, maybe not. Really, he's a good guy...he gave Shrub a chance and feels his rights and sensibilities have been trampled. Now he wants to see the progressives get organized and get this crowd out of office. He listens to AAR more than I do!

He's actually amenable to this and is interested in the People's Legislature that Ed Garvey is heading up.

17. I'd be up for a get-together on the 19th...
...I'm pretty sure...

And yes, let's avoid using Meetup for this. They try to charge the establishment money anyway, and we don't want that!

Since it will be night and winter, it would be nice to have it someplace that has ample parking. That's about my only input, unless someone takes a vote as to East side vs. West side, in which case I'd vote for West.

:hi:

18. Meetup asks for donations, they don't charge....I have never paid a cent
When I posted about establishing a Madison DU meetup a few weeks ago I was told not to use the Wisconsin board for this purpose.

As I told Madison Progressive in an email during the week I have sent out an email through the meetup board to everyone who signed up.

I waited for weeks and nobody volunteered to be an organizer of a Madison DU Meetup so I did. If you want to start up something else that's fine. I am out of town the weekend of the 18th.

19. They charge the establishments
but that may only be if a given number of people show up. I'm not sure how it works - but I know that some people have been caught off-guard by this.

I also know that there was an enormous uproar about this during the pre-Election time, so they may have changed their policies. The Dean people in the area quit using the official Meetup organization because of this issue.

I'm open to just about anything, so whatever people work out is fine with me. I did sign up for the Madison DU meetup list, but I have to confess that if I got an email about it, I have overlooked it.

I am just starting a new job, so because I can't invest a lot of time, I'm just going to watch things develop and try to be wherever people decide to have something.

20. Well, I really want you to attend M2000, so is the 27th better for you?
Anyone else have any input on the date? Lefta? I can pretty much make it any Saturday evening. Because it is Saturday night, and things usually get pretty packed early, I suggest we try to meet by 5:30-6 at the latest.

On the west side J T Whitney's is pretty good.

22. Since everyone else is putting their 2 cents in...
I'd rather meet on the east side and during the day for the first meet-up. I have lupus and flat out can't physically make it to anywhere that I can't park nearby.

26. Lupus? Does that mean you're a werewolf?
j/k

Sorry to hear about that. I really can't meet during the day as my work schedule wouldn't really allow it. We can make sure to find a place with enough parking at night. Is nighttime bad? If it's not a full moon?
