County experiencing meth problemRusk County is currently facing a methamphetamine problem and it's going to get worse.
That was the message delivered to 240 area citizens who attended last Thursday evening's Town Supper and Meeting in the Ladysmith High School Cafeteria and the 220 who stayed for a presentation by DCI Special Drug Agent Tim Schultz of Eau Claire, a nationally-known expert on meth and other illegal drugs.
The session was sponsored by Family Resources of Indianhead Community Action Agency to make the public, especially parents and students, aware of the presence and dangers of this highly addictive drug. The supper was made possible with a grant from the Alliance for Wisconsin Youth.
The meth problem has been moving from the Twin Cities through counties in Northwestern Wisconsin. Authorities report an increase in the use and manufacture of the drug and property crimes committed by meth addicts in Wisconsin counties. The problem has proliferated in Barron County to the west, where authorities are raiding meth labs and arresting users.
