Oshkosh DUers!! What's a good, comfortable place to hold a DU meet-up...
...near the Park Plaza Hotel? I'm thinking on June 10 during the State Party Convention.

1. the new moon
I'm not going to be there (I'm moving to Arizona on the 3rd). But the new moon is about 3 blocks north on main street. They always have great coffee and a good atmosphere, sometimes they have jazz bands or poetry readings at night.

2. I know the place

it could be pretty good....

another place I used to hangout when I "headquartered" out of Oshkosh was Jeff's On Rugby but it's down on 10th Street so taht's a little bit too far to walk from the convention site.

Wendt's-on-the-Lake down of hwy 45 is a good hangout also but its probably about 5 miles away...or more.

16. The New Moon during the day because

the co-owners are very liberal, one is a local Dem party member. If at night the bars to visit are Oblio's (2 1/2 blocks north of the convention) and Peabody's (3 1/2 blocks north) Let's support each others' business.

I won't be back for the convention (working on a race in Virginia) but tell 'em Bill sent ya. Most of the people at these establishments will put Democrat and Bill together and remember me.

17. Thanks Bill. Looks like Oblio's or Peabody's is it. Does either one...
...have a separate room where we could meet? What are the atmospheres like?

21. No seperate rooms but
if it's a smaller group Peabody's is more laid back and there are booths that allow some private conversation. The crowd trends toward the more liberal minded and is the place Democrats gather to watch election returns.

Oblios is a little louder with out much privacy, though there are more beers on tap and the owners donate to Dem candidates.

4. Several Ideas
Ideas:
- If you pitch in, you can get a hospitality suite - contact the Sate Party, they are inexpensive

- Peabody's is the place for good Dems, or Oblio's - both are w/in walking distance

- Water City Grill is usally pretty quiet that time of night

- There is a bar at the hotel

- There are people who post here that are also members of the Winnebago Peace and Justice Center - they may let you use thier space 2 blocks away

Responses:
- New Moon will most likely be closed after the speaches

- Jeff's on Rugby is a supporter of Repug causes & candidates

5. Thanks Jef
I was going to say that about Jeff's but didn't want to bring up a bunch of anti-smoking stuff. I still see the picture in the paper with Esslinger in that goofy hat at Jeff's after the election.

Oblio's would be good. I think they still have Guiness on tap.

7. It is recent...
mainly around the smoking issue.

But they supported a slew of VERY regressive candidates very vocally recently.

(Mainly goofy-hatted Esslinger, mentioned above)

I am upset about it, being a rugby-playing Jef myself.

The places I mentioned above have been on our side, and I encourage you to visit them, as well as New Moon if they are open.

Peabody's and Oblio's both sound interesting, Jef. Tell us more, please? And what kind of walking distance?

I'm eager to hear your report from later this week, e.

23. Should we set a meeting for after the Convention
on Friday night? I mean nobody really wants to miss the Hospitality Suites.

We can organize this, let me know. I happen to live 2-3 blocks from the Hotel of the Convention.

24. That's a concern of mine too.
I'd hate to miss the hospitalities too, but several DUers can't make a Saturday shindig. eyesroll has to leave on Saturday afternoon, and I know ralps has a conflict too. What do you think, Rp? Are you suggesting the meet-up begin after the hospitalities close?

25. Hell I'd do one afterwards and another on Saturday too...
The way I look at it, the convention only happens once a year and this may be the only opportunity for most of us to meet up at all.

So we should all go out to say Peabody's Friday night after the Suites close and then all hang out at New Moon Saturday afternoon. I actually am going to have the entire weekend free (my ex is picking up our son for the weekend) so getting out and having a good time that weekend would do me good. :)
