Senate short (17 votes short) on votes for budget
Lazich shifts stance after report that GOP plan raises spending 14.8%

***snip***

The Republican push to pass the budget faltered Tuesday when Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), who had voted for the GOP budget as a member of the Joint Finance Committee, said she does not plan to vote for it again.

Up for re-election next year, Lazich said she was reacting to a new report Monday that says the GOP budget would raise general state spending by 14.8% within two years - a number she said she did not have when she voted for the budget on June 10 after an all-night committee meeting.

But Assembly Speaker John Gard (R-Peshtigo) said Lazich's "flip-flop" on the budget "caught everybody flat-footed. It's like she's actually working for (Democratic Gov.) Jim Doyle," Gard said. "She wants people to believe she was sleeping while the (Finance) Committee was actually voting on the budget."

Responding to Gard, Lazich said he should "do a better job of leading" and added: "Maybe John Gard actually approves of this level of spending. It's up to the Senate to do better."

:woohoo: :applause:
Grab a chair and pop a little corn. It looks like this is going to get a little interesting.

Cool thing is, I read this with a circus music CD playing on my pc. Created the perfect atmosphere.

1. This looks like fun.
 Do you suppose she's worried about being re-elected?

2. I don't know her well enough to say
but the article does say she's up for reelection next year. No doubt it's having a bearing on her decision.

10. Are you talking to me?
 crap, I've never ran for anything. And besides, I don't think my conservative employer would be too appreciative.

But a couple of recent events give us reason for hope. Last year's effort to rename New Berlin West H.S. to New Berlin Reagan H.S. was shot down, and now there is recall effort started to oust the four conservative school board members.

4. That's sweet! But what disturbs me...
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 09:29 PM by ClassWarrior
...is the fact that you listen to circus music CDs and you're not under duress.

B-)

5. That is disturbing, isn't it?
Well, the Monty Python theme is on there somewhere but I don't know which so I listened to the whole thing. Thought it would go well with rummaging through the day's news.

Should have seen the look MadAsHell gave me when he walked through the door.

8. It's the Liberty Bell March.
Which is kind of ironic, considering it's associated with all things British.

9. I should have known you'd know that.
Ah, well. It made for an interesting afternoon anyway.
