Attn Canadians: How we can contribute to the Kerry Campaign ...
I have a suggestion and am looking for your feedback..

We can't contribute money to the campaign but we could send a symbolic gesture of our support -- what I am thinking is Flowers AND hockey sticks - eh!

Please provide feedback and together we'll work out a Howy Meeker game plan for shipping them to the Kerry HQ in DC.

1. lol!
I've been told that I CAN contribute money to his campaign....that was quickly followed by someone else asking me how I would feel if foreigners gave contributions to try to tip our own elections. So I re-thought it.

My own contribution is visiting as many BBS, forums, etc... online and getting the good word out! I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and watch the neo-cons setback this planet for another 4 years without a good fight!

I'm also trying to tell everyone how ridiculous the polls are....remember when our own polls showed the libs and cons neck and neck through the entire race?

3. The question "how would you feel if foreigners contributed to our election
I don't think it applies. The USA being the world's only remaining superpower, puts them in a unique situation. So much of what they do profoundly affects other countries. What other country can say that? Not too many, and CERTAINLY not Canada.

6. Power is Irrelevant
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 08:37 AM by Phil214
It's not a question of the amount of power a nation has. It's a question of citizenship. If foreigners can contribute to US campaigns, then Canada would lose its right to keep foreigners from contributing to their campaigns.

There's only way around that dilemma -- turn the UN (or at least NAFTA) into a fully sovereign entity with all the powers that a nation has -- in short, a global federal government (i.e. the USA become just another "state/province" of Planet Earth; and likewise Canada, the UK, China, etc.)

5. I suppose we could send money to American friends
Then they could contribute to their own candidate.

But really, I think the best way we can fight for Kerry and a big house-cleaning in the U.S. is to fight the neo-con wannabes up here in Canada. Hammer Harper and his crowd, to make sure they lose credibility and the same poison doesn't keep seeping into Canadian politics that has drown American politics the last 4 years and more.

7. All great points....

I've been feeling a little guilty lately...all this "posting" and debating online for Kerry has me feeling like I should also be doing this here in Canada.

The truth of it is, I like Kerry much better than Paul Martin - and I'm a devout Liberal!

Phyl, I agree completely, but now that I got what I wanted (Harper to be slaughtered), I think we're seeing Martin's conservativism emerging and I don't like it.
I guess I'm left wondering how we can possibly convince Martin to go back to "red", from his current shade of "purple", too much blue in there for my taste!

8. Our own rich cronies...
Don't just pound on Stephen Harper and the neo-fascist Conservative party, uproot Paul Martin and the damned Liberals as well. There is very little difference between neo-liberal and neo-conservative policy, economically. Both are pro-IMF, pro-NAFTA, pro-FTAA, pro-World Bank, etc. and often only have their own best interests in mind. They're barely interested in standing up for Canadian interests, and would rather sit in the lap of George W. Bush than stand up to him and say no to his imperialist ideas. They're already trying to go ahead with including us in this useless and costly missile defence shield, without really talking about it, because they know most Canadians would oppose it if they did.
