Kirpans!! Let the Games Begin...

I'll be first out of the shoot on this one:

SUPREME COURT OF CANADA ‑‑ JUDGMENT TO BE RENDERED IN APPEAL

OTTAWA, 2006-02-24. THE SUPREME COURT OF CANADA ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT JUDGMENT IN THE FOLLOWING APPEAL WILL BE DELIVERED AT 9:45 A.M. ON THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2006.

And what exactly is the SCC going to render judgement on:
Balvir Singh Multani, et al. v. Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys , et al. (30322)!!!

Kirpan case heads to Supreme Court

Gurbaj Singh Multani's right to wear a kirpan to school is going to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The case dates back three years when Multani was in grade seven at l'Ecole Sainte-Catherine-Laboure.

Multani is an orthodox Sikh and his religion requires him to wear a ceremonial dagger, the kirpan.

While he was in the schoolyard, Multani's kirpan fell to the ground. Authorities saw the 20-cm knife and told him to leave it at home if he wanted to return to school the following day.

The Marguerite Bourgeoys school commission took up the issue, and commissioners voted to let Multani to wear his kirpan to class as long as it was better protected.

However the high school's governing board rejected the plan.

Commissioners then reversed their original decision and backed the governing board.
