Canadians turn more sour on U.S.
Ottawa — Stephen Harper heads into his first meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush tomorrow with a new poll suggesting he keep a healthy political distance from his increasingly unpopular American counterpart.

The survey, for example, found that in Quebec, 81 per cent of those surveyed thought Mr. Bush's re-election was a bad thing. The poll also found that 70 per cent agreed with the statement that, although they value the United States and its citizens, they disagree fundamentally with the government.

The poll, conducted March 25-26, surveyed 1,000 Canadians and is accurate to within 3.1 percentage points 95 per cent of the time.

The Prime Minister said yesterday that Canadians won't accept just any deal on softwood.

“If we can't get a resolution that's satisfactory, this government will be vigorously supporting our industry and continuing with litigation.”

The article on the poll is there to read but what caught my attention was the statement about continuing litigation. Does it mean that he has stopped or stalled the litigation?

If they come to some kind of resolution outside of the NAFTA rules then I think that it is the end of NAFTA and the beginning of new discussions for a different trading relationship.

1. If litigation had stopped or stalled, he'd probably use "resume"
instead of "continue".

Not that politicians always use language correctly, though.

2. It means...
that Harper will continue to follow the Liberal strategy; no trade retaliation.

That's what it means...Harper will grab a deal, just simply to proclaim their 'trade' prowess over the 'other guys'.
