Ontario puts limits on calls from bill collectors
Ontario has set tough new rules for collection agencies, putting limits on who they telephone, how often they call, and what kind of language they use.

The rules are intended to help consumers who have been harassed by phone calls from collection agencies, Ontario's Government Services Minister Gerry Phillips said Thursday.

The rules include:

A ban on threatening or profane language by collection agencies.

New limits on an agency's right to contact employers.

Restricting an agency's contact with debtors who have referred the matter to legal counsel.

Clarifying the definitions of harassment.

more (only a little)
