I'm going to talk to my MP today
As a citizen I think I'm owed an explanation and a chance to voice my opinions to him on the government's disgusting support of Israel's slaughter of Lebanese people.
I urge all of you to do the same.

1. I will do the same! Thanks for the kick in the butt, I have been meaning

to do that but kept getting sidetracked, no more, I will act.

Edited to add: It is my intention to: send an e-mail, followed by a registered letter and a phone call. I began by trying to send an e-mail and, wow, the government site is as slow as molasses. I can only hope that is because MPs are being blasted as well as Canadians trying to find out what is happening to their family and/or friends that are still stranded.

Edited to add: Here is my e-mail to my MP:

I am writing to express my outrage at the actions of Prime Minister Harper with regard to the current crisis in the Middle East.

The total lack of compassion shown at the death of 8 Canadians is appalling as is the lack of action in contacting the Prime Minister of Israel demanding an explanation AND an apology for those deaths. I went to the Prime Minister's web page on July 17, expecting to see a message to the Canadian people on this and there was NOTHING, not even an acknowledgment that Canadians had died and more wounded. That is unacceptable.

Compounding the unacceptability of the above, the obvious public relations fiasco of the Prime Minister flying to Cyprus, with his OFFICIAL photographer, his wife and members of his communications team to, heroically, pick up 120 Canadians was equally appalling to me. The Canadians being evacuated do NOT deserve to be used as a prop for the Prime Minister.

Finally, Canada has, historically, under both Liberal and Conservative governance, played a role as an honest broker working toward helping bring peace in crises like this and NOT taking sides, without equivocation, as Prime Minister Harper did in unequivocally supporting Israel to the exclusion of all else.

In closing, I must repeat how appalled and ashamed I am of what I saw and heard from my government in recent days.

2. Lucky bastard - at least YOUR MP will agree with you
I have to put up with James Moore. Who, granted, is one of the better cons, but still a con.

3. No, sadly, he won't, I now live in Alberta!
My MP is now a faux Con who, from what I have been able to tell so far, is a typical one. I have only been a constituent of his for a very short time, 4 months, but he doesn't have to know that, lol.

5. Yeah, I moved in March, sold my home in Nelson
My children and grandchildren live in Edmonton and Tofield so, once I decided to sell my home, it was too big and being circa 1923 in need of regular maintenance, I decided to move closer to them. I now live in St. Albert, a provincially liberal oasis in a sea of conservatism, lol, in a great apartment, no more home repairs, etc. I am totally free to travel, whine on the net, etc, lol.

7. OT: My last (Con) MP was more responsive than my current (NDP) MP.
John Duncan, previous Vancouver Island North Conservative MP: 1 for 1
Catherine Bell, current Vancouver Island North NDP MP: 0 for 4 or 5 (also cc'ed all such correspondence to Jack Layton. Still nothin'.)

So, ironically, I'd be more inclined to write if I were still represented by the party I'd never support.

8. Irony indeed!
I will be interested to see if mine responds at all and, if so, what it will be. I won't be holding my breath though.

9. To be honest, I've stopped writing

He always wanted to call and talk to me. It's just so hard because he's a bloated idiot. He sounds like a grade-school drop out, can barely put a sentence together. All he did was spew garbage he was reading from a playbook.

The other problem I have is, it's wayyyy too hard for me to bite my tongue and not call him out for being the big fat bigot that he is.

.....so in the last year, I've taken to sending any correspondence directly to the PMO.

10. That is a good idea.
Although usually I get a nice barrage of propaganda back from my MP complete with talking points, right after a 'sorry you feel that way BUT' :puke:

11. Lee Richardson is my MP
:::sigh::: I would have more feedback talking to the dog upstairs. At least HE wags his tail when I talk... But, must gird my loins and let the SOB know that not ALL his constituents are conservative robots... I sometimes hate Calgary and its politics.
