to do that but kept getting sidetracked, no more, I will act.
Edited to add: It is my intention to: send an e-mail, followed by a registered letter and a phone call. I began by trying to send an e-mail and, wow, the government site is as slow as molasses. I can only hope that is because MPs are being blasted as well as Canadians trying to find out what is happening to their family and/or friends that are still stranded.
Edited to add: Here is my e-mail to my MP:
I am writing to express my outrage at the actions of Prime Minister Harper with regard to the current crisis in the Middle East.
The total lack of compassion shown at the death of 8 Canadians is appalling as is the lack of action in contacting the Prime Minister of Israel demanding an explanation AND an apology for those deaths. I went to the Prime Minister's web page on July 17, expecting to see a message to the Canadian people on this and there was NOTHING, not even an acknowledgment that Canadians had died and more wounded. That is unacceptable.
Compounding the unacceptability of the above, the obvious public relations fiasco of the Prime Minister flying to Cyprus, with his OFFICIAL photographer, his wife and members of his communications team to, heroically, pick up 120 Canadians was equally appalling to me. The Canadians being evacuated do NOT deserve to be used as a prop for the Prime Minister.
Finally, Canada has, historically, under both Liberal and Conservative governance, played a role as an honest broker working toward helping bring peace in crises like this and NOT taking sides, without equivocation, as Prime Minister Harper did in unequivocally supporting Israel to the exclusion of all else.
In closing, I must repeat how appalled and ashamed I am of what I saw and heard from my government in recent days.
