Schreiber asks MPs to review Mulroney's tax files
A lawyer for Karlheinz Schreiber has urged the House of Commons ethics committee to ask that former prime minister Brian Mulroney reveal details of his 1999 tax disclosure for the hundreds of thousands in cash he had received from the German-Canadian businessman.

In a letter to committee chair Paul Szabo, Toronto lawyer Edward Greenspan also urged the committee to seek Mr. Mulroney's banking records, his annual income-tax returns and all documents associated with the safety deposit boxes where Mr. Mulroney says he stored the cash he received from Mr. Schreiber.
...
Mr. Greenspan's request comes just days before Friday's deadline for University of Waterloo president David Johnston to recommend the terms of reference for a public inquiry into Mr. Mulroney's dealings with Mr. Schreiber. That task was handed to Mr. Johnston in November by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who ordered the inquiry shortly after Mr. Schreiber filed a sworn affidavit in court about the cash payments he gave to Mr. Mulroney. In the meantime, the ethics committee has launched its own probe, hearing highly publicized testimony from both Mr. Schreiber and the former prime minister about their financial relationship.

Greenspan's letter, which the Globe gives as a link, is very interesting. He also asks why Schreiber was put under oath, while Mulroney wasn't. He mentions that the inquiry is supposed to be about Mulroney, not Schreiber, so why is Mulroney being treated with kid gloves while Scheiber is being examined very closely ("May I remind the committee that it is not Mr. Schrieber's conduct under review, but that of Mr. Mulroney").

If Harper's advice from Johnson is to drop the matter, it will be interesting to see Greenspan and Schreiber's response.
