Mulroney wants right to object to 'irrelevant' committee questions
A lawyer for former prime minister Brian Mulroney said his client will appear again at a federal ethics committee hearing on the Mulroney-Schreiber affair only under a number of conditions.

In a Jan. 29 letter to the chair of the standing committee on access to information, privacy and ethics, Guy Pratte said all documents and testimony from upcoming witnesses should solely be related to the business dealings between Mulroney and German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.
...

He also requested a list of upcoming witnesses and the dates of their appearances, and questioned why the committee wanted to hear from Norman Spector, Mulroney's former chief of staff.

Pratte said evidence provided by Spector "has clearly nothing to do with your inquiry" and that allowing it would "maliciously cause as much damage as possible to Mr. Mulroney and his family's reputation for partisan purposes."

Spector obviously has Mulroney spooked.

Since brian requested it, it's his damn inquiry.

2. It looks like tomorrow's meeting with Schreiber has been canceled
I wonder if that means anything (link to the ethics committee website below)?

3. Typical arrogance from Mulroney....
It is interesting he is running scared of Spectre though, I can't help but wonder why.

4. It's hard to believe that Spector would actually spill any beans
But he might have to let something out that will embarrass Mulroney, for his own protection. Mulroney was getting a lot of money during his time as PM, besides his PM paycheque. That's going to come out, so I think Spector may be trying to get ahead of the story.

5. Thanks for the welcome back! I am currently in the Yukon and didn't...
have access to the internet until now. Re Spector, I saw an interview with him a couple of months ago and he has a real problem with Mulroney, his contempt for him was very clear. Whatever happened between them has left a very bitter aftertaste in Spector. Given his time as an insider, it will be interesting, indeed, to see how deep his rancor goes and what he knows about the Mulroney/Schrieber affair.
