MONTREAL — Conservative MP Jason Kenney is blasting the Bloc Québécois for resorting to xenophobia and intolerance in a bid to sway rural Quebec voters — a declaration met swiftly with a demand for an apology by Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe on Wednesday.
At a news conference in Ottawa, Mr. Kenney said he was standing by allegations he first made in an interview about the Bloc, but couldn't give concrete examples to back up his claims.
Mr. Kenney said the Bloc is desperate to hang onto voters in the hotly-contested province of Quebec and is playing the intolerance card in rural ridings by echoing ex-premier Jacques Parizeau's reference to money and the ethnic vote on the night of 1995 referendum.
